Welcome, dear visitors. You are standing in front of the Weiden shaft, located in Štiavnické Banieach in Banská Bystrica region. When you put on your headphones and start this recording, you will be familiar with the place where nature and industrial activity are connected. In front of you is a space that bears traces of its original purpose. Perceive the massive opening that once pulled ores from underground.

The exact date of creation of the Weiden shaft is unknown, but its existence is linked to mining tradition in this valley. Štiavnica Bane was the center of mining silver and other metals, and shafts like this served as entry points to underground galleries. Since specific founders or architects are not recorded in available resources, we assume that the construction was part of a wider project managed by mining technicians.

Looking at the shaft, note the characteristic elements. The first is a massive stone or concrete frame that surrounds the hole and provides stability to the construction. This framework has served to support the structure, protect against wind and ensure access for workers. The surface is worked and some parts are covered with patin. Metal or wooden elements may be placed around the entrance opening, serving as supports for devices or storage for tools.

The shaft itself is a vertical space which in the past allowed the transport of material and workers between the surface and underground. Although it is no longer operational, there is a deep tunnel beneath you. The air around here carries the smell of moisture and stones. Along the edge of the hole you can see traces of tools used to maintain and repair the structure. These details show that the shaft was a place for daily miners.

Since there is no detailed information on specific personalities associated with Weiden, we can focus on general experience from similar shafts in the region. In the past, people of various occupations met here - from experienced miners to young apprentices. Imagine the steps in the dark corridors and how successful mining seasons and moments were reflected here, when underground proved erratic.

The unclear history of the Weiden shaft, including the unknown year of creation and the names of builders, creates space for research. This unfamiliarity may be an incentive to search for information in archives, to interview historians, or to study old map documents. Perhaps in the future will appear documents that will illuminate the origin of the shaft and its role in mining activities in Štiavnické Banía.

Note how nature takes over industrial structures. High trees and dense vegetation surround the shaft, creating a contrast between natural and human creation. The sun's rays penetrate the leaves and hit the stone walls.

In conclusion, we invite you to discover other historical monuments, museums and natural beauties in Štiavnické Bania which complement the story of mining. Walk around and visit local information centres. Shaft Weiden is one of many witnesses to the past.

Thank you for choosing to know this part of history. To learn more, contact local guides or visit other exhibits in the region. We wish you a pleasant stay and a safe journey.

Thematic route

As the list of surroundings is not completed, I propose a thematic route in the area of the main objective:

1. Weiden shaft (main building) - technical monument with information about the history of mining and operation of the shaft equipment. 2. Foam area (outdoors) - tour of architecture and technical elements. 3. Exposition (indoors) - tour of objects and information about mining industry in a given location.

Seasonal recommendations

In spring, the neighborhood of Weiden shafts will awaken into life and landscape in Banská Bystrica region of greenery. The sun provides natural, soft lighting suitable for photography exteriors of this technical monument. It is recommended to shoes such as solid trekking shoes, because the terrain around Štiavnické mines can be wet and muddy after winter rains.

Summer season brings strong sunlight and high temperatures. In contrast to the cold of mining structures, a specific atmosphere is created. It is advisable to visit the site in the morning to avoid glowing. Light, yet durable, clothing and plenty of drinking water are essential, as droughts in this area occur in summer.

In the autumn nature around the shaft turns into golden and red shades. The air is cleaner and the visibility is better. The shorter day and colder mornings should be taken into account when planning the visit. The ideal choice is layered clothing that protects against fog and wind.

Winter changes the dynamics of the Stiavnické mines. Snow can cover the ground details. Due to the low temperatures and risk of flattening, footwear with anti-slip sole and warm, waterproof clothing are essential. It is recommended that you come in the short winter day to safely guide the site before a light alleviation.
