The townhouse in Levoča, located in Prešov region, is an example of medieval urban architecture in Slovakia. This object, registered by the Monument Office of the Slovak Republic under number ÚZPF 2773 represents the hall and row type of house from the late Renaissance of the 15th century. Its architectural value is highlighted by the preservation of the original facade and spatial composition.

Historically, houses of the burgher type evolved according to the material from which they were made, the way of heating, the solvency of owners and the needs of defense. The tower house was characterized by its multi-storey building with a high wall, while the chamber house had a simple longitudinal floor plan. Hall house repeated the hall area on the floor and it was a typical solution for urban architecture, where the hall was located on the sunny side.

In the 17th and 18th centuries the nobility began to buy houses into representative settlements, which led to the creation of a city palace with a landscaped front courtyard and social spaces. In the 19th century, pavilion houses with a four - winged block and orbiting spiders appeared, allowing access to individual dwellings.

The townhouse in Levoča maintains its original function of housing after many modernizations. His architectural concept of the facade was partially changed by modification of the parter, but the overall expression and ground plan-space composition were preserved. This house fixes the older urban situation and represents the type of burgher house of the late Renaissance period and Baroque.

Today this object is available to the public and is worth visiting as an example of historical architecture. Its preservation makes it possible to better understand the life of towns in the 15th century and to evaluate the history of Levoča.
