Welcome, dear visitors, and welcome to the unique example of the peasant settlement we know under the name Dvor peasant. You are standing in a place where in the silence of mountain meadows and forests history meets the daily lives of farmers. Before you there is a large area, which consists of several buildings, courtyards and fences, with the overall impression of being calm and bearing a trail of ancient activities that have been going on for generations. The air is filled with the smell of freshly chopped grass and the distant sound of the stream, which flows into the valleys around Ružomberok, complements the atmosphere of this place. Your view will first be captured on the main extension, which dominates the entire complex, and on the surrounding smaller houses, which form the typical arrangement of farmyards in the Žilina region.

When we consider how and why this settlement arose, we must realize that the exact dates and names of the founders remain obscured in the mist of the past. Historical records of this court do not indicate a specific year when it was founded, nor the names of the families who originally inhabited it. What we do know, however, is that similar farmers' settlements were formed in the region at a time when agricultural activity became the basis for urban and rural development. Given the geographical location of Ružomberok, situated in a valley with rich soil beds and proximity to mountain pastures, it is likely that this court served as a center for crop processing, animal storage and provision of utility areas for local farmers. At a time when agricultural techniques still relied on handicrafts and simple tools, such settlement provided the necessary infrastructure for everyday life - from hay storage to the maintenance of agricultural machines, which began to appear in later periods.

The architecture of the peasant court in this part of Slovakia has its characteristics that you can notice at first sight. The main house, which stands in the middle of the complex, is built of local stone and wood, reflecting the building tradition that was passed from generation to generation. Note how the walls connect with simple but solid windows that provide enough light to the interior. Doors are robust, often decorated with traditional carvings that may indicate the origin or belonging to a particular family, although specific details of their meaning are not documented. Around the main house there is a courtyard area, where animals once gathered and hay and straw were composed. Look at the fences that limit this part - their construction of wooden rods and stone foundations is typical for agricultural objects that had to withstand adverse weather conditions while providing safety for livestock.

As you cross the area, you can also notice smaller auxiliary buildings that served various purposes - from fodder plants to small workshops. Each one has its own character, but all together form a harmonious whole that reflects the practical nature of peasant life. Pay attention to how the roofs of these buildings differ - some are covered with shingles, others have a simple canvas, which may indicate different periods of their construction or repair. These differences in materials and techniques are valuable evidence of how the settlement has gradually changed and adapted to the needs of its inhabitants.

Although it is not known about the specific historical personalities associated with this court, we can imagine that many families lived and worked here, forming local character with their work and determination. Each generation produced its experiences, traditions, and stories, which were passed on orally. Perhaps you have already encountered talking about old farmers who have been hardworking in the field or about women who have carefully processed crops and cared for the household. These stories, although not in the archives, remain alive in the memory of the local people and in the atmosphere that surrounds you.

An interesting thing that can inspire your curiosity is the confusion about the origin and development of this settlement. Since the exact dates and names of the founders are unknown, the question remains as to when and why this court was first built. Some historians assume that it could have occurred at a time when agricultural settlements were expanding in connection with the development of trade routes that crossed the Žilina region. Others suggest that the Court could have served as a strategic point for food gathering and distribution at a time when the region was increasingly involved in regional markets. This confusion gives room for further research and discovery, and perhaps that is where his charm lies - a place that invites to seek answers and discover hidden layers of history.

When you break up in this historical space, remember to notice even the details that may escape at first sight. Look at the old stone walls that border the land, and think about how many generations have overcome them. Note the structure of doors and windows that carry traces of time - minor repairs, replaced parts, or preserved original elements that indicate the durability and resilience of the buildings. All these elements contribute to a unique character The Court of Peasant and allow you to penetrate the atmosphere that has been breathing here for centuries.

Finally, we warmly invite you to look at this place in more detail and discover other hidden corners that can tell their own stories. Walk around the courtyard, read the information on the information boards, if available, and if you have the opportunity, talk to local residents who may have personal memories or family legends associated with this court. Every step you take will draw you closer to understanding the life that has taken place here and respectful recognition of the work and determination of the people who have lived and worked here. Thank you for choosing this yard as part of your discovery of the cultural heritage of Žilina region. We wish you a pleasant and inspiring time spent in this historic farming estate and hope that you will return here with new knowledge and deeper understanding of the past that shaped today. Goodbye and a happy trip to the next discovery!

Tips for visitors

The best time to visit is in the autumn months when the country is screwed up and the light is ideal for photography. Use public transport to move to the city centre or to memory.

When you visit a peasant settlement, consider bringing with you protective clothing, as the weather may be irregular. We also recommend a photo and map area.

Photo moments are best at the beginning or end of the day when light is mild. Find places with views of the surrounding landscape.

In the immediate vicinity you can visit the Ružomberok Castle and its museum, which are also suitable for families.

In the main summer season it is important to expect more visitors. It is recommended to come early to enjoy peace before the evening when the crowds are decreasing. Clothing should be easy and practical, with sun protection such as hats or scarfs.

Autumn: Autumn in the farmhouse The Court brings about changes in nature. Tree leaves change colors, affecting the appearance of the landscape. It's a good time to visit when it's calmer than in summer. Visit the settlement in the morning or at the end of the day to avoid the highest temperatures before winter. Clothing should be multi-layered, as the weather can change quickly and colder evenings require warmer clothing.

Winter: In winter, the court looks like a peasant settlement because of snow that covers the landscape and creates an environment suitable for relaxation or photography. During this period, it is important to expect shorter opening times and lower temperatures. It is recommended to wear warm clothing including gloves, jackets and hats.
