Visit the picturesque village of Osturňa, where nature meets the long history of human life. You are facing just one of these quiet but extremely important points in this country - a peasant settlement, which we also call the Dvor peasant. Before we get to a deeper knowledge, just stop for a moment and see the atmosphere of this place. Allow yourself to be surrounded by the tranquillity of this peripheral area of the Prešov region, where the rhythm of life has been dictated by the movement of the sun and the changes in the flowing ro seasons. What you have in front of you is not just a set of buildings, but living proof of the way of life that shaped our culture and identity.

When you look at the overall picture of this settlement, you may be interested in its natural integration into the environment. Although accurate chronological data on its origin are unknown, its presence here acts as an integral part of this country. This peasant settlement was created as a functional whole, which had not only to provide the dwelling but above all to serve as a base for the economy. In the past the settlement was not just a place to sleep, it was a complex unit where housing, work and survival were combined. In this region, in the heart of Eastern Slovakia, peasant activity was a fundamental pillar that kept communities in breeding and stability. Although we do not know exactly in which particular century the first building in this place understood the soil, its spirit remains engraved in the very structure of the space.

Now that you are in the vicinity, try paying attention to architecture and how the individual elements of the settlement are arranged. See how the structures communicate with the terrain. In traditional farming architecture it was not about aesthetics in the modern sense, but about absolute functionality and efficiency. Notice how the materials you see here are closely linked to the environment you are in. Every detail, every wall and every angle was designed to withstand local weather conditions while providing the necessary protection for people and their property. Take a look at how buildings are distributed - in this type of settlement, the ratio between living spaces and the area intended for work or storage of crops is always important. Note this harmony between human efforts and the natural laws that these buildings must respect.

When you move around buildings, try to imagine those people who lived here. Although we do not know their names and their faces have not been shown by history, their presence is felt in every inch of this settlement. They were people who constantly tried to get a better tomorrow through their work in the fields that surround you. They were fathers, mothers, and children who experienced joy and pain in this court, who celebrated crops and who faced difficult winters. Their stories are not written in the golden books, but they are incorporated in the very texture of these walls and in the way this court is divided into individual zones. There is something deeply human in this when we realize that we are standing in a place where real, unadjusted life has taken place, regardless of the great political events of the world.

But there is also one fascinating mystery that accompanies every such anonymous monument. It's just the unknown. The unknown architects who designed these structures do not know the exact moment when the first stone or piece of wood in this locality was placed in the ground. However, this lack of precise facts does not mean that this place has no identity. On the contrary, it is this anonymity that gives the Court a special charm. It's not a monument to one particular person, but it's a monument to collective human efforts. It's a symbol of the thousands of unknown destinies that have turned around. This uncertainty forces us to take a deeper view and to rely not only on dry facts but on the feeling and intuition that this place offers us.

Instead of trying to extract only numbers from data, try to dive into the silence of this place. See how time in this location seems different than in cities. Here time is measured not by clockwise, but by nature cycles and material durability. That's the real value you're experiencing here today.

Now I want to allow you to discover again. Do not just stay at this one point, but continue your journey through Osturna. Look at the other parts of this village, perceive its unique character and try to find similar traces of history in other parts of this country. Each step can lead you to further reveal something previously hidden in the shadow of time. Thank you for sharing this moment with us. We wish you a pleasant walk and let this historic space allow you peaceful meditation. Goodbye.

Seasonal recommendations

Spring - In the spring days, the Osturni court lights up with soft light when the sun slowly rises above the forest slopes and the first flowers - white and pink poppy, wild narcissias, and fresh green shoots awaken. The air is fresh and the smell of earth after rain stimulates the feeling of recovery. We recommend arriving in the afternoon when the morning mist is dispersed, and avoid the greatest crowd of visitors who often arrive in the early morning hours. Put on waterproof shoes and a light windstorm, as the soil may be mud after rain; remember the sunglasses and light scarf that will protect you from the wind.

Summer - In summer, the Court of the farmer is surrounded by thick green grass and ripe cereals, which shine with golden reflection under the sun. The light is sharp and contrasting, creating dramatic shadows between old barns and agricultural buildings. The best time to visit is early morning or late afternoon, when temperatures are not so high and crowds of tourists are smaller. We recommend wearing a lightweight cotton shirt, cap and sunscreen, and bring a bottle of water because on hot days you quickly dehydrate.

Autumn - In the autumn, the surroundings of the court are changed into a palette of warm shades - orange, red, and gold leaves of trees that complement mature crops in the fields. The luminous intensity is softer, the sun's rays penetrate the shattered leaves and create a pleasant, peaceful atmosphere. We recommend coming in the afternoon when light is the most pleasant and color most intense. Wear layered clothing - a long sweater or light jacket, as temperatures can quickly drop, especially after sunset.

Winter - In winter, the Court is covered with snow, giving it a quiet and almost mystical atmosphere; the sun's rays are reflected from white covers and create bright, cool light. The air is sharp and clean, and when light appears on the horizon, the entire site looks like a fairy tale. The best time to visit is morning, when there is still plenty of daylight and snow conditions are not the worst. Dress warmth - thermowash, thick knitted vest, cap, scarf, and waterproof shoes with a good grip to prevent slipping on frozen paths.
