Welcome to the High Tatras. You just stopped at a place that carries a piece of Tatra history and the atmosphere of ancient times. Before you is an object known as Vila Orava, which is an integral part of the complex of the Palace Tivoli treatment house. When you look in front of you, feel the calm atmosphere of this place, surrounded by Tatra nature. You stand in front of a building, which by its presence completes the characteristic color of this area and reminds us of the era when the High Tatras began to form as an important center of relaxation and treatment.

A view of this architecture naturally leads us to reflect on its origin. Although accurate records of the date of construction or the names of architects who gave Villa Orava and the entire Palace Tivoli treatment house their present form remain shrouded in mystery, the very existence of these buildings is a testimony to the expansion of the Tatra settlements. At the time such objects were built, the main objective was the development of spas and the provision of facilities for visitors who sought clean mountain air and healing effects of the Tatra climate. Villa Orava served as accommodation capacity, which was intended to provide guests with sufficient comfort and privacy during their stay.

Now stop and pay attention to the details you have right in front of your eyes. Look carefully at the front of the building. Note how sensitive the object is planted in the surrounding terrain. Villas architecture Orava and Palace Tivoli reflects the effort to create a harmonious whole that would not operate in Tatra nature in a disturbing way, but instead would become a natural part of it. Follow the lines of the building, its proportions and the way light and shadow are played on its facade. It is in these tiny architectural elements that you can read the taste and aesthetic design of buildings intended for relaxation and recovery.

When we think about the history of this place, we need to realise that buildings like Vil Orava were not mere buildings. These were places where people from different parts of the country met, writing personal stories of guests who came to visit health or to relax from the rush of cities. Although the names of particular personalities that would be inextricably linked to this place are not documented in the historical sources, we can imagine how many interesting fates took place behind these walls. Every visitor who passed here left an invisible mark in the atmosphere of this place.

It is precisely this ambiguity and lack of concrete historical facts that the Villa Orava and the Palace Tivoli treatment house give a sense of mystery. It's the place that guards his stories. Perhaps it is this fact that we do not know everything about it that makes us more aware of the present moment and the beauty of the building itself. Sometimes it is more interesting to let your own imagination work and see the building as a silent witness to the past that does not need words to tell his story.

I hope that this short stop at the Villa Orava and the Palace Tivoli treatment house impressed you and made you curious about the history of the High Tatras. This place is just one of the many stops you can discover on your way. The Tatras have many hidden corners and historical objects that are worth paying attention to. I wish you to enjoy the rest of your stay in our mountains in health and well-being, and to take as many beautiful experiences as possible. Thank you for your attention and I wish you a pleasant next trip to get to know Tatra beauty.

Seasonal recommendations

The spring in the High Tatras brings nature awakening when the snow slowly melts and surroundings of the Villa Orava and the Palace Tivoli are beginning to green. The atmosphere is fresh and peaceful, ideal for visitors who seek silence before the main tourist season. During this period it is advisable to choose layered clothing and fixed waterproof footwear, as the trails can be soaked. I recommend planning walks for the morning, when the air is the cleanest and light ideal for photography architecture in contrast with the still snowy peaks of the mountains.

Summer is a period of vitality, when historical buildings in the Tatras stand out in full beauty under the clear sky. Long days provide enough time to explore the surroundings, but a higher concentration of tourists should be envisaged. To avoid the biggest crowds, plan to visit the area early in the morning or evening when the sun softly illuminates the facade. Do not forget light clothing, head cover and plenty of fluids, as the alpine sun can be very intense despite pleasant temperatures.

Autumn in the Tatras is a period of golden color palette, which adds Villa Orava and the Palace Tivoli nostalgic and elegant touch. The air cools, creating a perfect atmosphere for long walks in quiet parks. During this period, it is crucial to have a windshield and warmer clothing, as the weather can change very quickly. Visitors will appreciate a smaller number of tourists, which allows you to enjoy the genius loci of this place in peace and haste, while the best light to observe the details of historical buildings is shortly after sunrise.

Winter turns the surroundings into a fairytale landscape covered with snow, which highlights the majesty of Tatra architecture. The atmosphere is chambery, often amplified by smoke from chimneys and Christmas lighting around treatment houses. During this period, high quality winter clothes, gloves and footwear with slip soles are essential. Since it is almost dark, I recommend a visit at around noon when visibility is best. It is an ideal time to enjoy the spa comfort in the interiors that offer a refuge from the freezing Tatra wind.
