conservatory Franciscan monastery
St. Barbora church, also known as the Franciscan church, is a Roman Catholic church in Žilina with Baroque architecture. Together with the congress of Franciscans is located in the territory of the village Žilina in Žilina region and belongs to the number 1394/1 and 1394/2 in the central list of the monument fund of the Slovak Republic. The church was built between 1704 and 1730 when the Franciscans, led to Žilina by Palatin Pavol Esterházy, chose this town on the outskirts.
Church architecture is an example of Baroque style. The interior of the temple is decorated with Baroque altars, statues and pulpit, and there are also smooth and twisted side pillars. Loretanska Chapel is one of the original interior elements of the church. The paintings of the main altar, created by P. Konrád Švetka in 1891 depict Saint Barbora and Budatín Castle as it looked in the past.
The church also contains a pair of organs from Peregrin Werner. The large organ is located on the main chorus, and the smaller organ is divided into two parts on the sides of the main altar.
In 1834 the church was consecrated Mons. Joseph Vurum, the diocesan bishop of the Nitra Diocese, who put the relics of the holy martyrs Clement, Jukunda and Innocent in the main altar.
In 2010, the diocese bishop of Žilina Diocese decided that the church of Saint Barbora would be under the spiritual administration of the Dominican brothers led by Fr. Kristian Šalamon OP. In 2011 he was appointed as a new rector fr. Simon Tyrol OP, and in 2012 the church held the event Night of Churches under the auspices of Archbishop Robert Bezák.
Today, the church of Saint Barbora is administered by the Rehola of the smaller brothers Franciscans and Dominicans. Its historical architecture, interior features and rich history make it an important monument in Slovakia.
The church of Saint Barbora is a place of prayer and a witness to historical events. Its unique elements, such as a pair of organs from Peregrin Werner and the Loretane Chapel, add to its importance at national level. Visiting the church offers a view of the rich spiritual and cultural heritage of Žilina and Slovakia.

Welcome to this historic town of Žilina, where you are standing in front of one of the most important monuments of the local heritage - the Conservatory, which is located from the church of Saint Barbor and its area. This church is probably one of the oldest buildings in this part of Slovakia and reflects the rich historical heritage of the place. The church was built between 1704 and 1730 when he introduced the Franciscan palatin Pavol Esterházy to Žilina. This time was the time when the architecture of Baroque style developed in Slovakia, and we can see these influences in the design of this church. In 1834 the temple was consecrated by Bishop Joseph Vurum, which meant his official sanctity and the beginning of his ministry as a local religious center. Look up at the church facade. Although specific architectural details are unknown, you can notice elegant lines and harmonious styles that are characteristic of baroque architecture. In the Nitra temple is home to two organs from Peregrin Werner, the smaller of which is located on the ground floor and contributes to the richness of the musical life of this place. An important moment in church history was the year 1891 when the paintings of the main altar were created. These pictures depict Saint Barbor and Budatín Castle as it appeared in previous centuries, adding an epic atmosphere to the place. In 2010 the church was submitted under the spiritual administration of the Dominicans and a year later his new rector fr. Simon Tyrol. This transition in the report shows the constantly evolving role of the church in society. Interestingly, in 2012 the Night of Churches held here, which brightened the historical and cultural aspects of the temple in front of many visitors. This type of event helps to maintain a vivid memory of the history and meaning of this place. As soon as I'm done, I invite you to move further into the church. Find out his architectural styles, liven the atmosphere and realize the history that makes this temple so unique. We are all welcome to this place history and spirituality. Thank you for your visit and leave an impression of this beautiful monument.

For children
Imagine getting into an ancient country where high mountains and broad streams stand. There, in the city of Žilina, the Franciscans built a beautiful church 303 years ago. That was when people lived here who spent precious time listening to music and making beautiful pictures. When these brothers settled for the position of the church, it was like a game with big stones and crevices - each stone had to be right on the spot. In 1704 the construction began and after a long time of work it was completed in 1730.
