Eva Swimming Pool Bathing place with grounds
Spa Eva is a functionalist spa house in Piestany in Trnava region. It was built in 1933 and 1934 on the Spa Island.
The building was the last investment of the Winter family on the Spa Island. The project was designed by Bratislava architects Franz Wimmer and Endre Szőnyi. Wimmer, who then worked as a professor of German technology in Prague, joined the cooperation. He also called Václav Kolator, former racer and author of expert articles on swimming pools.
The architecture of the object is narrow and corresponds to functionalism, which is reflected in the composition of undecorated rectangular prisms. Authors were based on classic patterns and traditions. Element of the area is arch jumping bridge. Symmetrical composition of the building limited the possibility to develop a well-structured architectural unit.
The Monument Office of the Slovak Republic registers the area under the number of ÚZPF 11264. It consists of a swimming pool, an open pool with a bridge and an open children's pool. The swimming pool consists of a 25-meter indoor pool, a 50-meter open swimming pool with a jumping bridge, a children's open pool, accessories and sunbathing areas. There are two clay tennis courts, a beach volleyball court and streetball. In the 21st century a new children's pool with slide was built.
The swimming pool has undergone several renovations, mainly related to technology. In the last quarter of the 20th century a new entry object was added. The inflow of thermal water was gradually reduced, transforming the function of thermal swimming pool into standard. Currently the building is owned by Piešťany Spa, it operates as a tenant waterpole club.
Eva swimming pool serves as a training center for swimmers and water poles; there are two swimming clubs and one water-pool. Several top athletes trained in the facilities, including the double Olympic medalist Martina Moravcová.
The current state of some parts is problematic. The indoor pool is due to poor static roofing out of service and the 50-meter pool is closed due to technical condition. The area represents the realization of intermilitary architecture in Piešťany.
