Castle Good water Castle
The castle Dobrá Voda, also known as Dobrovodský hrad, is a gothic ruin in the middle part of the Little Carpathians above the villages in the Trnava region. It is located 320 metres above sea level and covers the area of 8 467 m2. It is located in the area of the nature reserve Slopy. The name of the castle comes from the water springs in the surroundings; it was historically mentioned under the names Bona Aqua, Dobrawoda or Dobrá Kameň.
The castle was founded in the first quarter of the 13th century on the site of the older castle on the rock tip. The written mention of castles in this area comes from 1263, when the castle was designated as a guard castle near the Czech road. In the oldest times, the castle formed a stretched structure with a palace and four-eyed towers on its narrower sides. Another part of the castle with the chapel added to the palace.
Originally the castle belonged to the royal property. At the end of the 14th century, Stibor moved from Stiborice and from 1436 into the ownership of the Országh family. By the end of the 16th century, the castle was secured by pre-gates and new buildings in the lower courtyard, which were added to the bastion in the castle wall. In this way the lower part of the castle was protected from the higher place.
After the uprisings of František II. Rákóczi in 1703 the castle was damaged. After the fire in 1762, only the prison for the subjects remained. In the early 19th century, the castle died and became a ruin.
Today, Dobrá Voda castle represents ruin. A part of the masonry with fortification and remnants of several structures overgrown by the green air. The castle is registered by the Monument Office of the Slovak Republic under the number ÚZPF 800 and consists of 25 objects, including towers, bastions and walls.

Welcome to the Good Water Castle. You are standing in a place where history meets the incalculable power of nature. Before you begin your journey around these historical remnants, let us try to realize where you are. Look around you and see the atmosphere. You are not only in a historical place, but you are right in the heart of the Slopy Nature Reserve. It is a space where nature gradually and tirelessly takes back what human hands once built with such great effort. Feel the fresh air and silence that prevails, interrupted only by the sound of the wind in the treetops. This castle, which stretches over a vast area of more than a thousand square metres, is not just a hundredth of a stone. It is a witness of ancient times, who took the rods up to three hundred and twenty meters above sea level. This altitude is not random; the castle was located right here to dominate the surroundings and serve as a strategic point in this country.
Now, if you look at these remains, try to imagine what the atmosphere once was. Although we see only fragments of the past today, there is still something spectacular to feel in this country. Castle of the Good Water was not built to serve as a dwelling but to have meaning and strength. Although we are not familiar with the exact names of architects who formed his face, we can try to understand his meaning through the history you see here.
If we want to look at how this castle was even created, we need to go back to the past. The castle was not only property of noble families from the beginning. Originally he belonged to the royal property, which says a lot about his strategic important position within the whole Kerajaance. It was the property that he was supposed to protect and control, which was crucial to the stability of the region at the time. The turning point was the end of the 14th century. Then the fate of the castle changed and passed into the hands of a mighty man, who was Stibor of Stiborice. At that time, Stibor was a figure that no one could ignore, and his mastery of this castle was a clear signal of the shift in power prices in this part of the country. Since 1436 however, the situation has changed in another way, when the castle was transferred to the ownership of the Országh family. This family worked here for many years and the castle became part of their family heritage, which says that the place was perceived as a stable and valuable property.
Now that you are around these remains, pay attention to how the castle has been incorporated into this divided country. Although many parts are now destroyed, the scale of the entire structure is still impressive. The area more than a thousand square feet [1,000 sq m] is suggesting that there was once a complex system of buildings, defence tracks and dwellings. Feel the space. Even if you may not be able to walk through every room, as if it were in a castle, the pursuit of this space within the ruin is important for understanding how great a castle it must have been. Watch how stone remains affect rocks and terrain. This is typical of the castle buildings of this era - the castle was not just built on the top, it became part of that mountain.
As you walk further, try to visualize the people who lived here. Stibor of Stiborice, Országh family... they're not just names in old chronicles. Those were people with ambition, power and responsibility. They lived here in times full of political paths and changes. The castle has witnessed great events, including the period of uprisings that have taken place in this area in the past and which have profoundly influenced the fate of many genders and the whole region. Although the exact details of every day of their lives are not preserved, the uncertainty and silence offered by the castle today allow us to have our own imagination. You can imagine the noise in dwellings, the movement of servants, the political debate in chambers or guard men on a defensive woman.
However, there is something else that might interest you. It's this strange combination of historical monumentality and wild, untouched nature. Castle of the Good Water is located in the area of the nature reserve Slopy. This means that every stone part you see today is in constant dialogue with the plant and animal kingdom. There is the same mystery - how did such a massive structure coexist so peacefully with forests and rocks today? Who were those people who put so much effort into building here when we don't even know their names today? This unknownness of architects and exact times of construction gives the site a mystical prìťka. It's a place where the truth about the past meets the legend and where every scraped wall can hide the story we forgot.
Indeed, this uncertainty is part of the magic of this place. It's not just about facts that can be written into textbooks, it's about the feeling that this place brings in. It is a feeling of humility before the time that changes everything, and before the power of nature, which eventually always exchanges its place.
I won't hold you much longer now. I invite you to continue your next discovery. Go through the remains of the castle walls, see the texture of the stone under your hands, and look from a height of three hundred and twenty meters to the surrounding landscapes. Get carried away by this place, have your own stories doped about what might have happened here. Enjoy the beauty of nature in the Slope Reserve and remember this experience from the historical monuments. Thank you for being with us, and we wish you a pleasant and inspiring passage through the historical trails of the castle Dobrá Voda.
