Welcome to the Great Lions. You have just stopped at a place that carries the spirit of ancient times and reminds us of the way our ancestors live. You are standing right in front of a folk house, a building that at first sight impresses with its modesty, but at the same time acts extremely authentic and peaceful. When you look at this structure, see its overall atmosphere. He is a witness to the past who stands here as a silent guardian of the traditions of this region. Although the exact date of establishment of this house is unknown, its form tells us much about how it was built and lived in this part of the Bratislava region.

Let's go and stop for a moment and think about what all this space has experienced. Folk houses in our regions were not just places to live but represented the centre of family life, farming and the generation-to-generation transfer of skills. Even if we do not know the names of architects who designed this house, or specifically the historical personalities who lived their lives in it, we can safely say that behind its walls were common human stories - joys, worries, day - to - day work on the fields, or preparation for holiday days. It is fascinating to realize that the building you have before you has endured until today so that it can tell us its silent story.

Pay attention to the details you have right in front of you. Look at the overall solution of the facade and perceive the proportions of this building. Folk architecture has always been marked by its perfect harmony with the surrounding landscape and the needs of the people living there. Note how easy and purposefully the house is situated. Every element you see had its clear meaning and function in the past. Whether it is the wall division or the overall shape of the roof, everything here was subject to strict rules of traditional construction, which developed over centuries. It is this simplicity that makes the folk house so special and attractive to the current visitor.

When you look at the walls and the total exterior, try to imagine how this place changed over the seasons. Imagine how life slowed here during the cold winter months and how it woke up to life when nature began to green in May. Although we do not have specific historical records of the significant events that would take place here, the very existence of this house is a small mystery. It is a mystery of patience and resilience. How did this construction manage to weather the stormy changes in history, while many other objects disappeared from that time irretrievably? Perhaps it is because folk houses were built with respect for materials and deep understanding for the environment in which they grew up.

Looking at this house, you will realize that we do not need to know the names of kings or nobles to understand the value of the place. The value of this folk house lies in its commonness, which is also its greatest strength. It is a reminder of our roots and the way our ancestors managed to live up to what the surrounding nature offered them. Every crack in the plaster or trace of time on the structure is like a wrinkle on an old man's face that talks about the years of life.

We hope that this short stop at the folk house in Great Levary has approached you and stimulated your interest in the history of our countryside. It's a place that deserves your attention and respect. As you continue your tour, try to look at the surrounding landscape with the eyes of the people who lived here before you. You may discover other traces of the past that are hidden in this region. Thank you for giving your time to this exceptional testimony to our culture. We wish you many other wonderful experiences in discovering the secrets of the Great Levers and look forward to your next steps in getting to know our common heritage. Goodbye.

Tips for visitors

The best time to visit is during sunny days in late spring or summer when architecture and surrounding greenery stand out. We recommend taking comfortable shoes for walking around historical courtyards and camera, as exteriors offer authentic lighting conditions especially during a gold watch. For families with children, the visit is suitable as an educational walk into the past, while it is advisable to have enough water and snacks. In the immediate vicinity there are no other specific attractions, so we recommend to focus on the detailed examination of the folk house itself.

For children

Imagine having a time machine, and you could move exactly one hundred and fifty-seven years into the past. The year was 1869 and the world looked quite different from today. No phones, no tablets, no internet at all. People in the village The big lionesses then lived at a completely different pace. It was at that time that a house was built that still stands there and looks like it was cut out of a fairy tale about the good old days. It is a folk house, a place where time stopped and the walls still whisper stories about the life of our great-grandparents.

Thematic route

The proposed route in the village Veľké Leváre focuses on local history and architecture in the area of the People's House and its surroundings:

1. Folk House (Type: Museum and historical monument) The object is the goal of the route and documentes traditional housing and way of life in Záhorie. Visitors can see preserved architecture, original interior equipment and expositions about everyday life of ancestors.

2. Area and courtyard of the Folk House (Type: Exterior space) The surroundings of the building include the economic background of traditional folk dwelling. The Court illustrates the functional connection of residential and commercial premises.

3. Traditional craft exhibition (Type: Internal exhibition) Part of the area is a space dedicated to crafts typical for the Great Levary. Exposition represents the skill of local masters and tools used at work.

Seasonal recommendations

Spring in Great Levary brings freshness and waking nature to the area of folk architecture. Surroundings of houses with typical blue façade and straw roofs are very photogenic in spring light, while flowering gardens underline the authentic atmosphere of the countryside. During this period the attendance is lower, which allows for a peaceful tour without haste. I recommend choosing layered clothes, as spring weather can be variable, and not forget comfortable shoes suitable to move around the yard and adjacent grassy areas.

During the summer, the folk house becomes an oasis of peace, where thick walls of buildings provide pleasant shade even during hot days. The golden sun rays falling into the yard create a captivating game of light and shadows that highlights the details of folk art. Since this is the period of the main tourist season, I recommend planning a visit to the morning to avoid the greatest crowds and noon heat. Do not forget the head cover and sufficient hydration, as a tour of the exterior under the direct sun can be exhausting.

Autumn brings melancholy and peaceful moods to the area, which is enhanced by fallen leaves and subdued light-shortening days. The atmosphere at this time is ideal for lovers of history and photographers who appreciate fine autumn colors contrasting with traditional architecture. Visiting is minimal in the autumn months, which guarantees almost private experience of the tour. I recommend taking a warmer jacket and waterproof shoes, as morning dew or autumn rains can make the terrain around the houses moist and muddy.

Winter gives the folk house in Great Levary a unique charm, especially if the area is covered with snow. In Advent time and during the winter months, the site operates very intimately and quietly, while the low winter sun creates long shadows that highlight the structure of roofs and wooden elements. The tour in the winter is short, but all the more intense, so schedule your visit for lunch hours, when the outdoor temperature is most acceptable.
