Welcome to Osturn, in this quiet corner of the Prešov region, where time seems to be stopped and nature with history live in a tight embrace. You stand before a peasant settlement, a place that is not just a set of buildings, but the embodiment of the fate of many generations of people who built their existence on hard work, humility and deep connection to soil. The first impression that will impress you on this yard is probably a feeling of peace and authenticity. Before you lies the space that has ever pulsed life, the sounds of the economy and the voices of the families who have found their home here. Feel the atmosphere, breathe the air of the area, and try to imagine what this place looked like tens of years ago, perhaps hundreds of years ago.

When we stop at the origin and historical context of this settlement, we have to admit that history does not offer us precise dates or names of concrete builders in this case. The chronology of this court's creation remains unknown, but this does not only make it a mere building but rather a silent witness to a minor whose names have disappeared from written records. It is this unknownness that gives the place a certain charm and mystery. However, we know that such farmers' settlements in our region have come from a practical need. They were designed to combine housing, storage of crops and animal care, all within one closed or semi-closed complex. This court in Osturni is a typical example of how people adapted to the landscape and how they organized their lives to survive in harmony with the rhythm of nature.

Now take a closer look at the architecture and total dispositions of the settlements. Notice how the court is resolved. Look at the layout of the individual parts and see the relationship between the main living area and the economic buildings. There was nothing random in such settlements. Every corner, every court trip had its particular meaning and function. Look at the details you see right now. Follow the roof lines, the way the buildings are oriented towards each other, and how they naturally copy the terrain. Look at the surfaces and perceive the texture of the materials used here. Although we do not know exactly who was lifting these walls, it is evident that they were people who knew their craft and could use what their closest environment gave them. Take a careful look at the links between buildings that create a safe interior of the courtyard, protecting the inhabitants from both wind and unknown.

Who lived here? Although the names of historical personalities associated with this particular place are not recorded in history, we can imagine the stories that have taken place here. Imagine the common day of the farmer and his family. Early uprising before dawn, when the fog was still covering the surrounding hills, the first work in the farm buildings that you now see in front of you, and then the long hours of working in the fields. This court was the center of their universe. This is where the birthdays were celebrated, where family disputes were settled, where grandparents talked to their grandchildren about what the world looked like before in the winter evenings. Every corner of this court carries the mark of a human hand, sweat and smile. Although we do not know their names, their presence is still in this area. They are the unfamiliar prides of everyday experience, whose lives formed the basis of our culture and traditions.

Perhaps you will now wonder what is most interesting in this place when major historical events or known names are missing. It's in the silence and unknownness that the greatest mystery lies. This settlement is like an open book from which pages with dates were ripped, but images and feelings remained. The mystery remains, what state the settlement was in at different times, how many generations survived it, and what secrets hide its walls. When you look at the buildings, try to feel the contrast between today's silence and the noise that had to reign during the harvest or at the time of crop processing. It is fascinating to think that this place has survived centuries of change, political regimes and social upheavals, and before and now, it is simply standing there reminding us of our roots.

Let's go slowly to the conclusion of our short tour. The farming estate in Osturn is not only a memorial of architecture, but above all a memorial of human life in its purest and easiest form. It is a place that teaches us humility and reminds us that real value often lies not in fame and dating, but in durability and authenticity. Now that you have adopted the basic ideas about this place, I invite you to go through the settlement at your own pace. Walk around the buildings, stop at every detail that interests you, and let your intuition guide you. Try to imagine the sounds of animals, the smell of fresh hay and the feeling of tiredness after a long day of work that turns into satisfaction when looking at your own home.

Take the silence that surrounds you and give yourself a moment of reflection on how our way of life has changed compared to the people who have ever lived here. Thank you for spending this time with us in Osturni. We hope that your visit to this farmhouse has enriched you and that you are leaving with a sense of inner peace and a new look at the beauty of simplicity. We wish you a pleasant continuation in your journey and discovering other gems of our region. Auf Wiedersehen, goodbye and may this day bring you many new experiences.

Seasonal recommendations

Spring return of life to the country around the farmhouse in Osturni brings fresh greenery and blossoming meadows, which give new, fresh buildings a new one. Sunlight falls at a lower angle during this period, dramatically highlighting the texture of old wood and stone walls. The atmosphere is peaceful because the main tourist season has not yet been deployed, which allows a quiet tour without disturbing crowds. Practical advice is focused on variable weather; temperatures may vary significantly within one day, so we recommend layered clothing, including waterproof upper parts. The best time to visit is noon, when nature wakes up and light is brightest, which is ideal for photographs of the details of the settlement.

Summer brings to Osturn long days with rich, full light, which reveals the entire area of the farmyard and surrounding fields in full blossom. Nature is the most vibrant in this period, with a thick leaf of trees that provides natural shade and coldness in the warmest hours. The atmosphere is solid, but the fresh air in the countryside compensates. Since this is the main summer season, expect more visitors, especially on weekends. For a comfortable visit we recommend arriving early in the morning, right after opening, to avoid the afternoon deep sun and the rewarding crowds. Clothing should be light, breathable and bright, with the need to protect yourself from the direct sun hat or cap and sufficient drinking mode.

The hinterland atmosphere around the farmhouse is saturated with warm notes of yellow, orange and red leaves that create a dramatic contrast with gray stone fences and dark wood barns. The light is soft and golden, which gives historical monuments a nostalgic and peaceful character. Nature slowly prepares for sleep, bringing silence and fragments of thoughts about the cycles of peasant life. Tourism is falling, which guarantees an intimate experience. Clothes should be layered, with emphasis on heat and protection from frequent autumn rains. The best time to visit is noon, when the sky often clears up and the sun penetrates through thin clouds, illuminating the golden leaves on earth.

The winter visit of the farmers' settlement in Osturn offers a unique experience of silence and snow cover, which softens the edges of historical buildings and creates a monochrome, peaceful scenery. Short days and low sunlight produce long shadows and dramatic light effects on snow. The atmosphere is cool, but charming, with a sense of isolation from the outside world. Since this is an off-season time, there is a minimum number of visitors, which allows complete privacy during the tour. Practical advice includes wearing very warm clothes, including winter jackets, gloves and hats, as well as good grip shoes for any snow or ice surfaces. Opening times may be shortened, so it is advisable to check the current information in advance and plan a visit in the warmest hours of the day, i.e. around noon.
