Welcome to Zdiar. You stand in one of the most beautiful and most traditional places in our country, where mountain nature encounters the unhindered power of human endurance. Before you lies the Court of Peasant, a place that is not only a set of historical buildings, but a living witness to the life that has been going on here for centuries. As you look around, you may be immediately approached by this feeling of peace, which carries some seriousness. Feel the atmosphere - clean mountain air, silence that only interrupts the sound of the wind, and the sight of buildings that seem to be an integral part of this country. This court is not just a monument; it is a trail left behind by generations of people who, in harmony with the rhythm of nature, built, worked and lived here.

Now that you look at the overall picture of this place, you can imagine what it was like to live in this region many years ago. The Court of Peasant was created as a fundamental element of rural society, as the centre of economic life of each farmer's economy. In this area, where mountain slopes are strict and the weather is often hostile, the yard was more than just a place to live. It was a complex system that had to ensure the survival of the entire family - from shelter from freezing winters to crop storage and livestock care. The historical context of this place is firmly rooted in the tradition of Spiš and mountain culture, where every piece of land and every wooden beam had its meaning. This court was built to face difficult conditions, and its existence was directly dependent on man's ability to adapt to the environment.

Now, please pay attention to the very architecture you have right in front of your eyes. Although at first glance buildings may seem simple, deep logic is hidden in their structure. Look at the way individual buildings are deployed. Note how the court is organized to create a natural space that protects against wind while allowing efficient work. Feel the harmony between materials and landscape. Although there are no magnificent artistic elements, the beauty of this place lies in its functionality and how perfectly fits into the mountain terrain. Look at the lines of buildings, their shapes and how they reflect the practicality of everyday life. Every detail, from the layout of the courtyard to the orientation of the buildings, was the result of the long experience of your ancestors with this particular environment. It's an architecture that wasn't designed for demonstration, but for life.

When you walk like that and see this space, you might wonder what faces this place was. Although we may not have been able to keep the names of the specific persons who lived here, their presence is still there. Imagine these people - farmers who went out in the fields every morning, mothers who maintained the warmth of their home, and children who had learned the first step in this difficult but beautiful country. Their lives were linked to the flowing cycle of the year - spring sowing, summer crop harvesting and autumn preparation for long and freezing winters. Every man who once stood here in the same place where you are now standing had his own story, his efforts, and his dreams that were inextricably linked to this court. It's the anonymous but tangible human presence that gives this place his real soul.

However, there is something more - something that cannot be easily explained by words. It's the strange mystery these old walls carry. Maybe you'll be impressed by the silent power that this court has. You can feel like a time visitor. There's something fascinating about how time in this place seems to slow down. One can begin to wonder what these walls saw, what secrets they kept in their walls, and what voices they once sounded like. This mystery is not about something mysterious or scary, but about the depth of history that is under your feet. It's a question of what's left of us when the time passes, and how our actions and our constructions affect the world that follows us.

Now that you have a little bit of experience in this area, we invite you to continue your next discovery. The Zdiar has many more stories and looks for you waiting to be caught. Let yourself be carried along this path, see every detail and enjoy the beauty of this country. Thank you for being with us and for stopping by this backyard. We wish you a pleasant and inspiring rest of your day in this wonderful area.

Seasonal recommendations

In spring the peasant settlement in Ždiar awakens. Nature is blooming, the air is fresh. We recommend wearing waterproof shoes because after the melts, the terrain can be wet and muddy. It is best to arrive in the morning when it is more peaceful in the area.

In the summer there are sunny days in Prešov region and rich green landscape that contrasts with dark wood of traditional architecture. During this period the biggest attendance is, so it is advisable to come at the opening to avoid crowds. We recommend light, breathable clothing and plenty of water.

In the autumn, the surrounding settlements are colored in gold and red shades. The quiet atmosphere provides the right conditions for meditation on the history of mountain life. For variable weather, choose layered clothing and schedule a visit for an early afternoon when light is softer.

In winter months, wooden roofs are covered with snow. Wear very warm clothing and monitor the shortened opening time, which adapts to a shorter day in winter.
