The Szinye manor house and the park are Baroque monuments from the middle of the 18th century in the village Chminianska Nová Ves in Prešov region. The building retains its original disposition and is the home of the artist Pál Szineyi Merse.

Municipality of Chminianska Nová Ves was founded before the 13th century, the first written mention comes from 1248. In the Middle Ages and New Ages it was known by the toll station and the seat of the nobility, mostly the side branch of the genus Merse from Sviná. The Baroque manor house was built in the middle of the 18th century on the site of an older building.

It is a ground floor two-track building with rectangular floor plan and mansard roof, which was originally covered with shingles. The building is basement, two longitudinal tracts of the basement cover rolling vaults. The northern façade is the main and contains the entrance from the park through the round rizalit. It is finished with a wide ledge and segment fronton with oval ventilation opening attic. The southern side has a square rizalit and entrance with an open atrium under the historical pillar wooden structure. The original stone portal in the southern facade has a segmented záleňok with engraving decoration and two-winged wooden doors. The windows of the building are rectangular with a strip shambles and a jewel.

The interior in the northern tract consists of a central hall with a high trough vault. Below the younger coatings are fragments of an illusive wall painting from the 18th and 19th centuries. In this room, historical fillings of windows with compressed arch and oblique barbeds were preserved. Other areas of the northern tract cover the spring vaults on the strips with partially preserved stucco decoration. The rooms of the southern tract are covered mostly with Prussian vaults; in one case there is a straight beamed ceiling under the vault and one vault is pearly. The 1967 list of monuments mentions a classicistic fireplace in the representative entrance room. The building preserved one-arm staircase to the attic and spiral stone staircase to the basement. The structure of the mansard roof uses the starry way of binding beams.

The manor house was owned by the family Szineyi Merse, who moved from it in 1853 to the family residence in Jarovnice. After the big fire in 1903 the object was probably repaired. Another restoration took place after 1945. Since 1959 he served as a kindergarten, a local National Committee building, a cultural house and a police station. There was a bar in the basement for a while.

The area is registered by the Monument Office of the Slovak Republic under number ÚZPF 12009 and consists of a manor house (12009/1) and a natural-country park (12009/2). The manor house stands in the center of the village on flat terrain in the river terrace of the river Svinka, near the church.

The current state of the building is bad, the building is abandoned. The park in the area is built and destroyed. The manor house is connected to the building from the period of socialism, where the municipal office is now located. The original layout from the 18th century was preserved without additions, as well as some elements such as historical window bars or doors in the southern portal.

The monument presents a demonstration of Baroque architecture and rococo decoration in the rural surroundings of Šariš and is associated with the artistic genus Szineyi Merse.

Welcome to the village of Chminianska Nová Ves, where history meets nature in a peaceful embrace. Right now you are facing a memorial that is a silent witness to the changes that have passed through this period and the entire Prešov region. Before you lies the manor house Szinye, along with the park. When you look at the building, you may perceive its current appearance, which is influenced by decades of use, but in fact you are in front of an object that carries the Baroque spirit. Let's go now to the history of this place together. The manor house and park are baroque monuments, which come from the middle of the eighteenth century. At that time such residences were centers of the common and cultural life of noble families. Although the building has undergone various changes over time, it still retains the original atmosphere of the aristocratic residence. The important milestone in the history of this house is the year one thousand five hundred fifty-three, when the Szineyi Merse family permanently moved to their family residence in Jarovnice, linking the family's destinies to the local regional context. Now, when you move to the building itself, take note of its overall disposition. Although the specific names of the architects who designed the project are not known, the Baroque origin is still present in the structure. Look at the facade and perceive the proportions of the building. It is important to note that the journey of this accommodation has not always been quiet. In the year thousand nine hundred three in the village broke out a big fire, which left deep footprints in the local building. It is very likely that it was after this disaster that the manor house was repaired, which may have affected some of the details you see before you. Nyni, pay attention to the one who lived in these walls. This house is not only a pile of stone and mortar, but it is mainly the home of the famous artist Pál Szineyi Merse. Imagine how the young painter's talent grew in these rooms, as the available culture surrounded him, perhaps inspired by the surrounding park. The connection with art gives this place a special dimension. Every corner of the building thus resembles the creativity and aesthetics that have rooted in this house. If we move our mice inside the building now, one of the most interesting mysteries and gems of this object awaits us. Although the interior has undergone many changes in recent decades, under the younger coats, fragments of the illusive wall painting of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries are hidden. Illusionism was at that time the highlight of artistic expression, when paintings were supposed to create an impression of depth and space where in fact there was only a flat wall. These fragments are like a secret message from the past, waiting for their full disclosure and reminding us of what a luxurious and artistic interior once existed here. However, it is fascinating to see how the function of the building changed along with the time. Since the year one thousand nine hundred fifty nine began to be the mansion used as kindergarten. Imagine this contrast: the rooms that once served to receive noble guests and to discuss art and politics were filled with children's laughter and playfulness. Thus the building from the aristocratic residence has moved to the sphere of community benefit and upbringing of new generations. This transition from private estate to public space for children is a typical story of many historical objects in our region. Now, remember to look around at the park. The Baroque parks were not only decorated, but were designed to create a harmonious set with the main building. See this space as a natural extension of the manor house. In the past, it was in such parks that walks, conversations, and relaxation from everyday tourism took place. Although time has changed the shape of many plants and alleys, you can still feel the original intention to create an oasis of peace and beauty. So you are standing in front of a place that combines baroque elegance, the tragedy of a great fire, the genius of artist Pál Szineyi Merse and the innocentness of the nursery school. It is a place where art masterpieces hide under modern paint and where each wall tells a different story. We're going to lead you to another search. Walk slowly around the building, see the atmosphere of this historic area and give yourself a moment of silence in the park to better visualize the lives of people who lived here hundreds of years ago. We hope this short trip to the past has helped you to better understand the meaning of the Szinye mansion for Chminianske Nová Ves. Thank you for your attention and we wish you pleasant delay in this beautiful corner of Prešov region.

Tips for visitors

Recommended visit time
A suitable period for visiting is autumn (especially October), when the park changes colors. In June and July it is quieter around because the tourist season is not at the top.', 'The light is optimal for shooting before 10:00 or after 16:00 when the seams are fine. Avoid the following hours when the direct sun creates sharp seams.', 'In winter (especially in December) the manor house can be covered with snow.', 'For more information use the application for public transport or contact the local government.

What to Take With You
The terrain in the park is uneven and occasionally muddy, solid tourist shoes or sneakers are recommended with a good fit. Avoid sandals in the summer.

Take a lightweight sweater or jacket in autumn and spring, as the temperature can quickly swing. In winter, warm clothes and waterproof footwear are suitable.

There are no stalls or cafeterias around the manor house, so take water and light bacones (e.g. hanging pancakes, nuts).

If you are planning to take a photo, take a tripod and cleaning towels on your lens.

Photography - places and light
Photos from the southwest corner of the park will capture the manor house in full width accompanied by trees. Suitable light is 30 minutes before sunset.

Suitable angles are on the north side of the manor house, where there are visible architectural details (window frames, stucco elements). Avoid sunlight that reduces contrast.

Images under the trees with red leaves (e.g. old oak trees in the main alley) are suitable in the autumn. In winter there are suitable photographs of snowy trees and frozen water areas.

When accessing the interior, morning light is the most appropriate. Do not use lightning because it can negatively affect the appearance of old plasters and wooden floors.

What to visit nearby (within 30 minutes of driving)
Walking in the village part (especially the streets with folk houses) will show Slovak excavations. Traditional wooden buildings are preserved in the central part of the village.

V Prešov (about 25 minutes drive) you can visit Prešov Castle or Evangelical Church. Cultural events are held here in the summer months.

In the surroundings are forest and agricultural roads suitable for cycling. The cycling route leads to the Torysa River, where birds can be observed (e.g. seagulls, stoves). In the autumn, mushrooming is appropriate in this area.

Tips for families with children
Children may be interested in searching for details in the park - e.g. old statues, fountains or animal relief on the manor house. You can give them a task to find a triangular shield or animal symbols on the facade.

With children's toys (e.g. frisbee, ball) you can arrange a picnic on the grass. A quieter place is the southern side of the park, where trees are not so dense.

In winter children can shape snow sculptures or ride sleds on forest roads. It is appropriate to collect letters in the autumn.

You can take children by explaining the functions of architectural elements of old manor houses. Show them old photos or let them draw their own version of the manor house.

Seasonal recommendations

Spring brings awakening of the historical park surrounding the Szinye mansion in Chminianska Nová Ves, when the surrounding nature recovers from winter sleep. The atmosphere is fresh and peaceful, ideal for quiet walks under the open air, while the fine spring sun rays pleasantly illuminate even the leafless crowns of old trees and uncover the first flowering snows and violets in the lawns. From a practical point of view, it is important to choose strong and non-promoting shoes, as the soil in the park is soaked and muddy after melting snow. Spring roams are best suited to layered clothing with windproof jacket, as spring weather can be variable, and the best time to visit is morning when morning dew creates magical reflections on green grass.

Summer envelops the area in lush greenery and thick leaves that provide a pleasant shade and deep shade during hot days. The atmosphere in this period is vivid, full of birds singing and insect buzzing, while dense vegetation creates romantic corners reminiscent of a secret garden where strong midday light breaks through the treetops and creates an interesting game of shadows on the facade. As a practical advice, it is not necessary to underestimate the protection against insects and ticks that are active in the grass, so longer lightweight clothing and repellent are recommended. It is advisable to go either early in the morning or late in the evening, when temperatures are falling and the sun's rays are softer, which is appreciated by outdoor photographers.

Autumn changes the park into a color palette full of warm shades from yellow to orange to deep red, giving the whole historical place a melancholy and noble character. The atmosphere is complemented by the noise of fallen leaves under your feet and the typical morning fog, which floats over the area and adds a mysterious touch to the ancient architecture. For the autumn walk, warm clothing, including a cap and a scarf, is essential because the cold wind is quick to surprise, as well as high-quality wet shoes, as the leaves can slide nicely on the pavements. The ideal time to visit is around noon and in the early afternoon, when the sun breaks cloud for a while and offers the best lighting conditions to admire architectural details in a varied natural frame.

Winter brings deep silence and cleanliness to the park, when the whole country covers a white layer of snow and highlights the quiet contours of the manor house. The atmosphere here is extremely chamber and fabulous, ideal for meditation in complete peace away from the rush of civilization, while the low winter sun creates long shadows and a unique game of light on snowdrifts. For practical reasons it is necessary to dress really warmly - choose winter shoes with non-slip soles, quality gloves and warm jacket, because in the shade of the park the temperature is kept low. The most convenient time for a winter visit is the right noon, when daylight is the strongest and the air temperature reaches its daily maximum.
