Welcome to one of the silent witnesses of the past in Prešov region. You stand before a place that bears the names Castle Kapušany, Maglovec or Tubul. At this point in time, when you are looking at this place, you may be particularly aware of the atmosphere of silence and mystery that this object is spreading around. It is a place where history is intertwined with nature and where each stone tells its own, although today only a whispered story. Look around you and see the space you are in. Although you may not see monumental palaces that immediately impress you with their size, it is in this moderation and in the quiet surroundings lies the strength of this place.
When we stop at the question of origin and historical context, we must admit that Kapušany Castle, also known under the names Maglovec or Tubul, is inhabited by a measure of unknown. The exact chronology of its construction is not clearly documented today and we cannot determine exactly who these first builders were who decided to place this building right here. In the history of many castles, time has erased the names of architects and specific dates, making them puzzles for future generations. However, we can imagine that this castle served as a strategic point to protect the surroundings and control important roads in the region. At the time, many centuries ago, it was important to have an overview of the terrain and to be ready for the arrival of foreigners or enemies.
Now we focus on architecture. When you look at the space in front of you, note the overall disposition and the way the building fits into the country. As we do not have detailed plans for specific elements, I will invite you to focus on the overall impression. See how the terrain lines connect with the remains of the structure. Look at how time affected material and how nature slowly takes back what human hands once built. Note how light falls to the surface and creates a game of shadows that gives the site depth. It is in these details, in the texture of the surfaces and in the silent testimony of the walls, that you can feel the spirit of ancient times.
Let us now try to imagine the people who lived and worked here. Although the specific historical personalities associated with this castle are not nominal in our documents, it is clear that hundreds of people have passed through here. Imagine the soldiers who kept the guards here, the maidservants who kept fires in their hearts, or the nobles who may have been dealing with important political and economic issues. Each of them brought their dreams, fears and ambitions. Although we do not know their names, their presence is still in this air. It's fascinating to realize that you're standing right where the pre-promoting centuries someone else stood and looking at the same view that you see now.
Each memory has its own mystery and Kapušany Castle is no exception. The greatest mystery may be just what we don't know. Why does this castle appear under such different names? Maglovec, Tubul, Kapušany. Each of these names may refer to a different era, function or other view of this place. It's like a puzzle missing key pieces. It's this unfamiliarity that makes us detectives of history. When you look at construction, try to imagine what secrets can still be hidden underground or in walls that have long been silent. Maybe there were secret passageways, or there were treasures hidden here that nobody knows about. It is this aura of mystery that makes the visit to this place exceptional, because it allows you to complete the missing parts of the story with your own imagination.
Now that we have gone through what we know together, even what remains a mystery, I will allow you to examine this place personally. Take your time. Go around, see the smell of nature and the silence that surrounds you. Try to stop for a moment, close your eyes and imagine the castle at its best times, when there may have been voices of people and the sound of weapons. Then open your eyes and look at what's left. It is a strong reminder that nothing is eternal, but that the monuments we leave behind have the power to survive millenniums and communicate with us even after hundreds of years.
I hope this short trip to the past has helped you to better perceive the place before you. Castle Kapušany, Maglovec or Tubul may not be the best known castle of the country, but that is where its charm lies. It is a place for those who seek peace, authenticity and mystery. Thank you for your attention and for choosing to devote time to this historic monument. I wish you a pleasant continuation of your journey and many new discoveries in further exploring the beauty of the Prešov region. Goodbye.
