church r.k.sv.Ladislava Church
St.Ladislav's church is an early Gothic Roman Catholic church in Necpaly in the district of Martin. The building comes from the second half of the 13th century. There are medieval frescoes in the Sanctuary and attic.
Sources show different times of origin; some speak of 1222, other buildings date back to 1250-1260. The temple is dedicated to the Hungarian king Saint Ladislav. During the Reformation period he served the Evangelical Church.
It's an early Gothic church. Around 1320 a sacristy was added to the building. In the 14th and 15th centuries the building was repaired. At the end of the 16th century, the ship was encircled by a walled vault, which brought part of the original wall paintings into the attic area. In the 1980s there was a repair of the interior and adjustments to reduce the humidity of the building.
The church was the centre of the Necpaly parish, which included the villages Belá-Dulice, Žabokreky, Folkušová, Ďanová and Blatnica. Since the 1970s the parish has been managed by ex-currendo from Turčianske Petr. On February 1, 1994, the parish Necpaly canceled and the church became the philial church of the parish Turčiansky Peter.
Medieval frescoes in the Sanctuary and Attic were declared a national cultural monument on June 11, 1991. It is believed that paintings are also under a layer of painting in a church boat, but a detailed survey did not confirm this. Under the building there is a crypt of the Just family, patrons of the church and parish, but the entrance to it was cemented in the 20th century and is unavailable. The original part of the equipment was the Gothic statue of Madonna, which was transferred to Budapest in the early 20th century to the collections of the Hungarian National Gallery.
The church is located on the southern edge of the village on a raised terrace. The building surrounds the cemetery, which is on three sides bounded by a stone wall.

Welcome to Necpaly. You're standing in front of a building that carries in st Jahrhundert's history and quietly lost times. Before you, the bars of the Roman Catholic Church of St. Ladislav, a temple that is a silent witness to the changes that went through this region. Now that you're looking at it, you may only feel the calm atmosphere of the room and surroundings, but each part of the building tells its own story about faith, art and family secrets.
Now let's rush deeper into the past to understand exactly what you have to do with yourself. This church is not a mere building, it is an early Gothic church, which dates from the second half of the 13th century. Imagine the events that took place here when the first stones were laid to the ground nearly seven centuries ago. The church is dedicated to the Hungarian king Saint Ladislav, which in that contemporary context testifies to the significant spiritual and political affiliation of this place.
Now that you are taking on the overall form of the building, note its architecture, which has evolved gradually. Although the foundations go back to the early Gothic period, the building has undergone several changes over the ages. If you looked at the layout of the premises, you would find that in 1320 a sacristy was added to the church, which extended the functionality of the temple for the needs of priests. Another significant intervention was the enclosing of the ship with a vaulted vault, which occurred in 1599. It is this detail that gives space its specific character and stability, which one perceives when looking at the ceiling structure.
Pay attention to what is inside, though many of these treasures are hidden from first sight. The most valuable element of this church is medieval wall paintings, or frescoes. They are located in the Sanctuary and attic. These works of art are so significant that in 1991 they were officially declared a national cultural monument. Imagine the colors and details that in the Middle Ages would remind believers of Bible stories and saints at a time when most people could not read. These paintings are now one of the most important witnesses to the early Gothic artistic expression in the region.
In addition to the spiritual superstructure, however, history under our feet also introduces us. Under the church building is the crypt of the Justh family. It is this place that gives a mysterious touch to the landlord, since crypts were the place of the last rest of noble families who worked in the area and influenced its fate. It is fascinating to think that while the Gothic vaults and medieval frescoes rise above us, beneath us lies the history of the Justh family in the silence of the underground corridors.
The end of the twentieth century also brought about organizational changes that affected the life of the temple. Necpaly parish was abolished in 1994. Since then, this church has no longer functioned as a separate parish, but its status has changed into a philatelic church of the Turčiansky Peter parish. Although it is no longer the center of its own parish, its historical and cultural value remains untouchable.
If we were to look for one of the main attractions that each visitor should be interested in, it is a combination of these three layers: an underground crypt, a land-based early-gothic architecture and aboveground frescoes in the attic. It is like a vertical cross section of history, where each layer represents a different aspect of human life - death, faith and artistic creation.
Now we invite you to go around the whole object in peace, to perceive its atmosphere and to try to imagine what this temple looked like in the 13th century. Let yourself be guided by the silence of this place, and note the details that remind you of ancient times.
