Révay Mansion Manor house with grounds
Révayovský manor house is located in the village Mošovce, in the Žilina region. It is one of the most interesting historical monuments of the Turiec region.
The manor house was built in the second half of the 18th century by the noble family of the Révai in the rococo-classicist style. The building of the manor house was originally two-storey with rectangular floor plan. The building has a block character and is situated on the edge of a large park. The front facade consists of the edge of a rectangular square. The entrance parts of the ground floor are designed in a fairly spectacular style. Other areas are connected to the entrance hall. The building is partly basement. In the basement there is a 9 m deep well. Wide wooden staircase provides access to the floor. Rooms on the ground floor have simple vaults without more pronounced ornaments. The exception is the room so-called "episárne" - where on the ceiling there is a plastic motif corresponding to the purpose of the space. Most rooms on the floor have flat ceilings. The hall is representative of the preserved Rococo-Classicist furnace. In the manor house we will find original doors and on the ground floor windows rococo-classicistic forged bars.
After 1945, the mansion served for school purposes. First there was the State Children's House for War Orphans, in the economic part kindergarten, later a special boarding school, after which started to work Agricultural vocational school. In the first half of the 1990s the building was bought from the village of Slovak Film Production Bratislava, which after reconstruction used it for recreational purposes.
On the night of February 14, 1963, a shingle roof, made of red spruce, ignited from burning soots in one of the chimneys. Despite the deployment of 14 fire brigades, the flames reached a height of 20 m, and the entire village was able to read newspapers in their light. In a fire that caused damage for 160,000-Kčs the whole roof burned, but fortunately it was later restored.
Attractive interiors of this historical building have been used several times in previous years by filmmakers. Last time, there was a saga about the Turk's earthers, Elizabeth's court. After reconstruction and adaptation, the manor house was used as a hotel in the late 1990s and early 21st century. Nowadays, the manor house is operated by BELIS and serves a noble purpose - it provides accommodation in its beautiful historical premises not only for dreamers, but also for all those who depend on daily care.
Near the manor house were farm buildings from the first half of the 19th century, which were located on a large area of courtyard in the shape of the letter U. Originally in them were stored carriages, later cars Baron Révai. After World War II, they became home to the agricultural mechanisms of the local cooperative. They were wound up in 2005.
The old manor house, which was located in the northern corner of the extensive mošovský square, was renovated in 1952. When and under what circumstances, who was his builder, we do not yet know. It is likely that it was very old because, when the fire destroyed it in 1760, Baron Joseph Révai did not repair it, but decided to build a new manor house. When the Révai family built a new mansion, they reportedly had the floor of their old mansion dismantled because servants did not deserve to live in their chambers. The thickness of the preserved wall suggests that its function was to carry little more than a roof.
In addition to the Révai, there used to be another noble family in Mošovice - the Rakšánsky family. In the 15th century, there was probably a curio on the site of today's supermarket. At the end of the 19th century there was a Jewish school. The last owners were the Révai, who no longer needed the heat, at the beginning of the 20th century they had it demolished, and in its place they set aside vegetable gardens for their servants.
The English park, which has been an essential part of Mošovic since the second half of the 18th century, is one of the largest parks in central Slovakia. It also includes a neo-Gothic chapel, garden pavilion and today no longer a secession greenhouse.
The manor house is now fully functional and serves as accommodation for dreamers.
