Evangelic church with an area in the village of Kamenany in Banská Bystrica region is a single-ship building from the first half of the 13th century. It combines Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque elements and contains medieval frescoes.

The village of Kamenany mentions written sources from 1243 in the donation document of King Bel IV, to which they were given to Ditrich and Philip Bebek. The church is the remains of a former Franciscan monastery that died in the 15th century. Patrocinium to St. Ladislav is documented in 1688.

It is a one-ship church with a semicircular apsid, which is lower than a boat. Apsida is wedged by a smooth cone with a baroque stucco mirror and has a blinded east window. The winning arch with a broken archival is made of worked stone with a skirt and simply profiled ledge. Originally a flat-sized ship was in the Renaissance period encircled by a rolling vault with lunettes. Since the vault is lower than the original wooden ceiling, the gothic window trenches have reached the roof. In the 19th century, the sanctuary was complemented by a classicistic altar with oil painting by Jozef Czauczik. The organ from 1804 was produced by František Eduard Pecník.

The interior contains wall paintings. In the attic above the winning arch there are fragments of medieval decoration with three figures of angels of life. Research from 1958 and 1977 carried out by Karol Veselý and Milan Togner revealed in the presbytery part of two figures in an overlife size with remnants of pastorals and halo reliefs. On the northern wall of the ship was found fresco with theme Metercie and Virgin Mary in the mandorle in the spirit of the Italian Renaissance. The paintings were created in the early 15th century and their authorship is attributed to the Siena painter. In the church there is evidence of puncing technique on the surface plasters with ornaments. Romanesque sitting with the Gothic fresco of three holy bishops and the Gothic pastorium were found in the open.

The area is registered by the Monument Office of the Slovak Republic under number ÚZPF 513 and consists of five objects. In addition to the church, the ensemble consists of a brick Renaissance fenced wall from the first half of the 17th century, a brick classicistic belfry from the 1800s, a church cemetery from the second half of the 13th century and a 19th-century plantation. There is a former church school building nearby.

The church was declared a national cultural monument on May 6, 1963. The frescoes are in poor condition and are poorly readable, although their degradation process is halted. The plasters require preservation.

Welcome to the village of Kamenany, in the heart of the Banská Bystrica region. Right now you are standing in front of an evangelical church with its complex, a place that hides layers of centuries of Slovak history. When you look at the building in front of you in this way, you may feel that you see only one building unit, but in fact you are in front of a witness of the changes that shaped this area from the Middle Ages to the present. Feel the peace of this location and let this space take you back in time.

To understand why this area is so special, we must storm deep into the past until 1243. During this period, King Bel IV gave the settlement to Stoneňana Ditrich and Philip Bebek. It was this donation that laid the foundation for the development of the village and, consequently, for the creation of the spiritual centre that you see today. It is fascinating to think that the foundation of this sacral building was also formed when houses and fields were first established here. Originally, this place was associated with a different spiritual tradition than that which we perceive today. Historical records from 1688 remind us of the original patrocinium dedicated to Saint Ladislav, which helps us to better understand the layers of faith and traditions in this area.

Now, if you look at the church architecture itself, notice something very interesting. Construction is not the product of one single era, but it represents a fascinating dialogue of different architectural periods. If you carefully discuss the details, you will see that the building combines romantic, gothic and baroque elements. This combination is not random, but it shows that the church survived for centuries and was supplemented or modified in every major change in the art or the needs of the village. It's like an open book of architecture where every chapter talks about another century.

Inside the area now go to the brick bell tower. This part of the complex dates back to 1800 and is built in the style of classicism. Note its clean lines and the balance that is typical of this period. The bell is not only a functional element to call the believers, but it represents the aesthetic peak of later extensions in the area. But if you move your thoughts inside the church, another gem awaits you. In 1804 the organ was produced, which is the work of the famous master Franz Eduard Pecník. Imagine the tones of this instrument that are spilling under vaults and complement the atmosphere of the place that has been standing for so long.

Now I want to invite you to one of the greatest attractions of this place, which may not be visible at first sight, but is key to the identity of this monument. The church before you comes from the first half of the 13th century and is in fact the remains of the former Franciscan monastery. This monastery died in the 15th century, but the church survived and became the center of spiritual life for others. So it is basically a fragment of a larger whole that has ever existed in this area, and that reminds us today of the presence of Franciscans in this area.

If you are able to perceive the interior, pay attention to medieval frescoes. These are precious testimonies of ancient art. Especially noteworthy are the fragments of paintings with three angels of life size. The idea of angels who adorn the walls in the natural size of man adds a deep spiritual dimension to the space. In addition to them, the fresco of the Virgin Mary is preserved, which testifies to the deep respect and artistic skills of ancient masters, whose names remained unknown in time, but their work survived centuries.

It's amazing how this place developed. From the royal gift in the thirteenth century to the bloom and subsequent demise of the monastery, to the classicistic bell tower and the precise organ. It is because of this immense historical and artistic value that the Evangelical Church with its campus in Kameňany was declared a national cultural monument on May 4, 1963. This recognition has confirmed what you feel now - that you are facing a place that is an indispensable part of our common cultural heritage.

However, the names of architects who shaped the church over the centuries remain a mystery. We do not know exactly who designed the Romanesque foundations or who brought Gothic elements into the building. It is this anonymity that gives the memory a certain mystical touch. It is the work of many hands that have alternated over the course of the seven centuries so that today this building can welcome visitors like you.

We're about to finish our short tour. Now you can go through the area in peace, see the silence and remember the details we discussed. Look again at the combination of different styles, think about the fate of the extinct monastery and feel the peace that this church radiates. We wish you a pleasant rest of the day in the Stones and hope that this trip to the depths of history has enriched you. Thank you for your attention and welcome again.
