the manor house. Rollers' Manor house with grounds
The manor house in Snina is a classicistic building with an area, which was created by the reconstruction of the original wooden building. It is located in the village of Snina in Prešov region and represents a historical monument restored in 2013.
The design on which the manor house is located is mentioned in historical documents under the name Lisa or Lysá. The first mention of the wooden mansion, which was located on this place, dates back to 1646. The brick manor house was built between 1781 and 1800 as a reconstruction of this original building for Countess Terézia van Dernáthová.
The building is classicistic and forms part of the area registered by the Slovak Monument Office under the number of the ÚZPF 145. The area includes four objects: the manor house itself (145/1) from the years 1781 to 1800, the manor park (145/3) from the same period, the house of service (145/4) in the style of classicism from the early 19th century and the fountain with statue (145/2) from the year 1841 which contains the mythological figurative motif in the style of late Baroque.
After the death of Countess Terézia van Dernáth, her sons sold Snina and the manor house in 1799 to Joseph Rhol, a mining and metallurgical businessman. Rholl completed the construction around 1800. After Stephen Rholle in 1857 his daughter Clara, married to Count Theodore Čáki, became heir to the manor house. In 1865, Count Coburg bought the building from Belgium and then Count Štefan Ocskay. In 1911 the manor house and the entire estate in Snina bought Count Jozef Degenfeld from Debrecen. In 1917 the monument was sold to Zemplínske forestry in Ružomberok. From 1948 to 1993, the manor house served as a space for various schools, including the Russian High School and others. Between 1995 and 2009 he was the owner of Michal Merga and since 2009 he is the owner of the town of Snina.
Joseph Rholl had three Hercules cast, one of which is still in the courtyard of the manor house. Between 2012 and 2013, a complex reconstruction of the building was carried out, which was financed by European Union funds worth about 1.6 million Euro. The official opening of the renovated manor house took place on 5 July 2013 in the form of religious services. After the ceremony he handed the symbolic key to the Mayor of Štefan Milovčík to the direct descendant of the then owners, Dušan Roll.
The manor house in Snina is today reconstructed historical monument, which is part of the city. The area with park and fountain represents the history of this site.

Welcome to Snina. You are standing at the moment when time has stopped and you can fully immerse yourself in the atmosphere of a place that bears the traces of many generations. Before you lies the manor house of the family Rollovské, monumental building with a rich area that radiates peace and also some special, historical majesty. Perhaps at first glance you feel the same humility that people felt hundreds of years ago when they came to visit the noble settlement. Feel the moment. Let your eyes flow smoothly after the facade and let yourself drift away by feeling that you have become part of something permanent. This manor house is not just a building; it is a witness to the changes that have passed through this region, and it is the result of long evolution from modest beginnings to today's classicistic form.
If we now try to understand how this place came about, we need to go deep into the past, which is what historical records help us to do. Perhaps you would imagine that this brick object has stood here from anywhere, but the truth is much more interesting and shows us how one has tried to last and prestige. The first mention of where you stand today comes from 1646. At the time, however, they did not yet find the solid walls you see. At the place of the manor house stood a more modest wooden curio. Imagine this old wooden structure that was intrinsically connected to nature around, but it was prone to time and elements. Gradually, however, the needs of local families and nobility changed. The need for a representative seat, reflecting their position, led to a decision for a full transformation.
A key turning point in the history of this place occurred between 1781 and 1800. It was during these years that a brick manor house was created, which you admire today. It was not a completely new project on the green field, but a monumental reconstruction of the original building. This process of transformation from wood to stone and brick was a symbol of stability and rise. During this period, architecture began to connect with the new ideals that then dominated the European continent.
Now that you're standing right in front of the building, pay attention to its architecture. See the harmony and order that emanates from it. The manor house is built in the style of classicism. If you look at its overall composition, you can see the effort for symmetry and balance, which is a typical feature of this period. Classicism teaches us that beauty lies in simplicity, clean lines and logical arrangements. Even if we can't devote ourselves to every single detail you might want to see in the interior, look at the very face of the building. See how this building fits into its area. The area is not just an accessory, it is an integral part of the whole that creates space for privacy and also for representation. See the balance between architecture and the environment that is so typical for classicist settlements.
Speaking of this place, we can't forget the people who made history here. The manor house is inextricably connected with the name of Countess Theresa van Dernáth. It was for her that this magnificent reconstruction was carried out. Imagine that woman who, at the end of the 18th century, decided the fate of this place. Its influence and its need for its own, dignified seat shaped what you see before yourself today. The manor house was seen as a symbol of its status and as the center of life in this part of the county. Although the names of many architects who have implemented this project are lost in history, their hands and their vision are still present at every angle and line of this building.
At this point, you may wonder what happened later. History is full of questions and sometimes confusion. What happened after Countess Theresa died? How did the fate of this manor house change in the centuries to come? Although we have clear information about its origin and its original function, many details of its later period remain in the shadow of history. It is this uncertainty, this little mystery, that gives the place a special charm. Any wall could tell us a story that is not written in the books. It is the story of the quiet, hidden in the shade of the trees of the area and in the structure of the walls that survived the transition from the wooden cure to the magnificent residence.
The interesting thing is this constant transformation. The manor house in Snina is not a static object that was built and forgotten. It is a living example of how architecture adapts to the needs of time. From a modest wooden building from 1646 to a representative classicistic manor house, we can see a path that the company itself has passed. It's the way from functional refuge to artwork.
Sometimes you stop and think about how many people have already been here in your place. How many glances at this manor house were not in themselves the same astonishment or thoughts that resonated here in the past. The manor house of the Rollers family is here for you today so you can enjoy this atmosphere and understand the importance of historical heritage.
Now I won't hold you at this one point much longer. We invite you to continue your journey. Go through the area, see the space around the building and try to imagine how this place worked at the time it was in full glory. Look at the transformations you just heard, and try to find them in every detail you can capture. Get carried away by this place and enjoy every moment of this historic visit. Thank you for being with us, and we wish you a pleasant and inspiring passage through the rest of this interesting area. We'll say goodbye, but history is still waiting for you.

For children
Imagine that it's like in the game of the past, where there's a mysterious mansion from the time when our great-grandmothers and great-grandfathers wore long dresses and walked on roads full of stories. About 245 years ago, what in Snina, a small beautiful village, started building the manor house of the Rollovské family. It was 1781, and that time was full of change and new mice. There stood only a simple door to the kuria, which is first known in the year 1646. But then, when the time came for a change, this manor house was built of solid stone and looked very elegant.
