Pezinok Castle Manor house and park
Pezinok castle is a Renaissance mansion in Pezinok, Bratislava region. It was originally built as a water castle in the 13th century and preserved its form.
The castle was built before 1271. At that time, the troops of Premysl Otakar II attacked it. Surrounded by two ditches filled with water from the Cajlan creek, they had access protected by two falling bridges, and farm buildings were located on the mound between the ditches.
In 1401, Count family estates from St.Jur and Pezinok were divided, causing a dispute over the division of the castle and the town between Juraj and Mikulas. In 1575 the castle came into the hands of Ivan Krusič, who started the repair work. Štefan Ileshazi continued these adjustments and the castle took a Renaissance form.
On the facade of the interior tower there is a tablet with the coat of arms of Ivan Krusič. Above the entrance gate from the side of the courtyard is a tablet of Štefan Ileshazi from 1609, and above the portal on the right is the coat of arms of Štefan Ileshazi and Katarina Pálffyová.
After the launch in the 17th century, the castle was repaired by John Pálfi in 1718. 19th Century The Palffys made further adjustments, especially after 1875, when part of the building was converted into a romantic men's seat.
Between 1940 and 1943 the building was used by the Slovak wine cooperative, which adapted the cellars and added the administrative building. The oldest core from the 14th century was a water castle with a double wall.
In the first half of 2019 the building underwent extensive reconstructions of facade and interior. The Palace Art Hotel with a restaurant and wellness was established on the site of the former administrative building, while a fountain was added to the courtyard. In the original part are open restored Palffy apartments and historical hall with paintings of the Bartsov, which depict wine towns and villages. Gallery of glass works in the building and the cellars represent the winery of the castle winery.
Pezinok castle combines medieval roots of the water castle with later Renaissance and romantic elements. A visit to this area allows you to familiarize yourself with the history of the city and the regional winery.

See you in Pezinok. You stand by one of the most important historical objects in this area, which, by its presence, will immediately transfer you to another era. Before you lies the Pezinok castle, which today acts as a peaceful and majestic jewel vśrod green park, but its history is much more dynamic and full of unexpected twists than it may seem at first sight. Before you go on the next trip, stop for a moment and just feel the atmosphere of this place. Let your eyes pass through the façade of the building fluently and sense the strange sense of connection between the present and the centuries that raced here. This object is not only a building made of stone and mortar, it is a living witness of ancient times who survived periods of great glory and times of dangerous conflicts. Let's go back to the past together and try to understand how this place was born. Although we see an elegant mansion today, you must imagine that its roots go much deeper into the black days of the Middle Ages. Originally there was not this quiet mansion, but strategically located water castle. Its existence is already documented before 1271, which means that this place was an important point in the political and military map of the time. At the time, safety was not a matter of aesthetics, but of survival. The castle was designed to provide protection and to be almost inaccessible to enemies. This strategic importance was also confirmed at a time of major political shocks, when the castle faced attacks by the troops of Přemysl Otakar II. Imagine the tense time, the sound of the battle, and the uncertainty that the inhabitants of that place had to experience. This castle was an indispensable part of the region's defense. Nyny, when we know what warriors and citizens this place once served, let's go about what you can see right in front of you. When you look at the facade of the castle, pay particular attention to the details of the portals. It is there that there are traces of the families that owned this property at various times and shaped its fate. If you look hard, you can spot the coats that are located there. They are the coats of arms of Ivan Krusič, Stephen Ileshazi and Catherine. These heraldic characters are not just a decorative element; they are livers that talk about power, gender origin and who in this house decided the fate of the surrounding region. Each such coat of arms is like a chapter in a book that the building keeps telling us. Feel the elegance with which these symbols are corrupted into architecture, and try to imagine people walking through these portals centuries ago with a sense of pride in their name. I would like to invite you now to imagine what this place looked like at the time of its greatest defensiveness. Although you can see a peaceful area and a park in front of you today, it was once surrounded by a two - ditched water. This water was not just a random element but a key gate to safety. Water from the Cajlan stream flowed into the trenches, turning the castle into an extremely difficult obstacle for every attacker. Access to the castle was much more complicated then today. You had to cross two trap bridges that could be raised at any time, making the castle an almost unprovable fortress. This water barrier created a fascinating contrast between the strength of the stone walls and the movement of water, giving the place an indescribable atmosphere. As we travel, let us now see how this castle has changed. It is fascinating to see how the military fortress, which had to face attacks, has become a representative seat that we now see as a manor house. This transformation from the water castle to the noble manor house is basically a story of the transition from a time of constant threat to a time of stability and culture. Every layer of architecture you see here is the result of this long process. It's not just one building, but a set of layers of time that intersect with each other. If you are interested in something less familiar, think about how the Cajlan brook shaped life in this place. The water that once defended the castle from its enemies is likely to no longer perform the same function, but its presence in the surrounding area still reminds us that this castle was inextricably connected with natural elements that gave it power. It is one of the small but significant things that makes history so fascinating - the fact that what we now see as a peaceful landscape element was once a key tool of defence. Now that you have acquired a basic understanding of what this object represents, you can continue your search. Look around you, feel the quietness of the park and look for the details we mentioned. Let yourself be carried away by the idea of falling bridges, the rhythms in the arms, and the fighting that took place long before the noble families began to settle here in the form we know today. Every step along these paths is a step through the centuries. Let us say goodbye now, but just for a moment. Keep this experience in you, let this view of the Pezinok castle process at its own pace. Continue to explore, see the beauty of the surroundings and enjoy every moment in this historical environment. Thank you for being with us on this short journey of time. We wish you a pleasant rest of the day and other beautiful discoveries in this picturesque area.
