Welcome to Zdiar, the heart of Prešov region, where time seems to stop and nature with human creation enters deep harmony. You stand before a peasant settlement, a place that is not just a set of buildings, but a living witness to ancient times, a harsh life, and the insufferable will of the people who have built their homes here forever. The first impression that is likely to fill you now is that of peace and authenticity. In front of you, there is a space that carries the smell of wood, old traditions and silent talk about generations who have lived here. Feel this atmosphere, breathe deep mountain air, and let yourself be remembered for a moment for today's collapsed world.

When we stop at the origin and historical context of this place, we must realise that we are not faced with the work of one famous architect whose name would be written in textbooks. This home was designed and built by local people themselves, farmers and masters who knew every grain of wood and every ascension in the field. The exact dates of creation disappeared in time, but the very form of the settlement tells us about the centuries of adaptation to the conditions of the Belianske Tatras. The Ždiar was always a specific place where the fates of the Wallachians and the local settlers were entangled. The farming estate was the foundation building block of the company in this environment. It was not just a place to sleep but a complex system of survival, where each part of the court had its exact purpose and meaning. Here was associated with farming, where the rhythm of the day dictated the sun and the rhythm of the year the needs of the earth and animals.

Now take a closer look at the architecture ahead. Notice how the entire settlement naturally fits into the surrounding country. Look at the fortified buildings and see their overall composition. Although we do not know exactly who laid the first foundation stone, it is clear that the building followed the logic of operation and protection from adverse weather. Note the materials that dominate the entire space. The wood you see here is not just a building material, but a symbol of man's connection with the forests that surround it. Look at the facades and see the texture of surfaces. Note how buildings are located in the courtyard to create a natural shelter and protect the interior from the violent winds common in this area. Everything on this settlement is created to withstand the trials of time and nature. Look at the roofs, the way they are solved, and think about how many layers of snow they had to endure during the long winter months. Every detail you see now is the result of the experiences that have been passed on from father to son, from master for learning, without the need for paper plans and drawings.

Although the names of those living in this settlement are unknown in historical records, their presence is felt in every corner. Now imagine these anonymous heroes of everyday life. Men with thick hands who went out to work in the morning, and women who with tireless energy kept home warm and clean. Key stories of this place are not written in chronicles, but are engraved in wooden walls and right into the doorstep. A story about how the family has summed up with a barren year, a story about the birth of a new family member in the heat of the furnace, or a story about the joint work of neighbors in the roof repairs. It is this collective memory that makes the farmer's home a little more than just a memorial. It's a monument to human endurance. These unknown personalities in us today speak through the silence and peace that persists here. They teach us that true value is not in glory and dating, but in the ability to create a home that will last generations.

Perhaps you will now be interested in one of the attractions associated with similar settlements in the region. There is a certain mystery in them that lies in their ability to breathe. These homes were not sealed boxes, but organically interconnected spaces. A mystery for a modern observer can be how in such simple constructions the optimum temperature in freezing winters and refreshing cold during summer days was achieved. The secret was tangled in the precise selection of wood and in the way the buildings were oriented towards the world parties. Now when you look around, try to feel this invisible energy. It is fascinating to think that the people who lived here had intuitive knowledge of ecology and sustainability long before these concepts became part of our current debate. Their life was in absolute harmony with the cycles of nature, which is perhaps the greatest lesson for us today.

Let us now slowly move to the conclusion of our short journey together before this historical memorial. The peasant settlement in Zdiar is a silent witness about who we were and where we came from. It is a reminder of simplicity, which was actually very complex and wise. Now that you have adopted the basic context and have perceived the atmosphere of this place, I invite you to continue to explore the settlement at your own pace. Walk around the buildings, touch the wood, feel the silence, and try to imagine the sounds that sounded there hundreds of years ago - snorting animals, laughing children, rhythmic fatting axes. Let your intuition guide you and find out what this place will say to you today.

Thank you for your attention and for sharing these moments of meditation with us. We hope that your visit to this farmhouse has enriched you and that you are leaving with a sense of inner peace and a new view of the value of traditional life. We wish you a pleasant continuation in your journey along the beautiful Ždiar and the entire Prešov region. May the journey lead you to the next discoveries and beauty of our country. Goodbye.

For children

Good morning! Come with me for an adventure in history!

Zdiar, Prešov region, has a hidden pearl - a peasant settlement, which originated about 106 years ago. At that time, farmers and their families lived here trying to make life on this beautiful geography.

It was like a game where everyone was the hero of their history. People came here with the intention of setting up a new home where they could feed and make their lives. Here was the sandy land, there were forests and rivers where cattle and fish could be raised.

Seasonal recommendations

In spring Zdiar wakes up to life with fresh green and frost-repellent, creating a fresh and energetic atmosphere. Lighting in this period is fine and scattered, which is advantageous for detailed observation of historical details of the settlement. We recommend preparing layered clothing, because weather in the mountain environment can be very unpredictable at this time. Since attendance is not yet on top, you can enjoy a peaceful observation of architecture without large crowds.

In the summer months the settlement is flooded with bright sunlight and dense vegetation that gives the place a vivid appearance. In the main summer season, the number of visitors is the highest, so it is best to come immediately after opening to avoid interference and crossings. Do not forget to protect from the sun, cap and enough fluids. Clear summer days offer excellent conditions for photography, but high temperatures require reasonable planning.

Autumn visit brings nostalgic atmosphere accompanied by golden colors of the surroundings and morning fog, which give the historic place mystical charm. The light is lower and softer in this period, highlighting the texture of wooden structures. We recommend taking comfortable shoes and waterproof jacket, as mornings can be cold and wet. It is an ideal time for those looking for a quieter environment and beautiful colorful tuning of nature.

In winter, Ždiar is surrounded by snow, which provides a dream and traditional atmosphere. The days are shorter and the light is weaker, so schedule a visit during a bright afternoon to use the maximum daily world. It is essential to have very warm clothes and strong shoes to cope with the frost and possibly passing snow or freezer on the road. In Advent time and during the winter months we recommend to monitor the current opening time, which can be adjusted.
