Welcome to the charming surroundings of Osturňa village in Prešov region. You are just standing in front of an authentic peasant settlement that seems to have stepped out of the pages of old books and breathed upon you in the atmosphere of past times. When you look around you, you find yourself surrounded by unique architecture and peace, which can only create a deep relationship between man and the soil and nature surrounding this place. Take a deep breath of fresh air, and let me accompany you in a place that stores traces of our ancestors' lives.
Let us go further into the history of this remarkable corner of Slovakia. Osturňa itself is known for its unique character and long tradition, and this peasant court is a witness of the time when life went on in a completely different rhythm. Although the exact year of creation of this particular settlement remains shrouded in a drape of mystery and we do not know the names of its original builders or architects, each beamed reinforcement and every corner of this court speaks the language of working hands. The people who lived here had to face the difficult conditions of the mountain environment, yet they were able to create a home that resisted the tooth of time. The settlement served as a living organism, where the daily management of family life was associated, and this is the reason why the strong spirit of previous generations is still felt.
Don't pay attention to the construction itself and its details. Stand closer and let your sight rest on the front of this farmer's estate. Note the overall concept that reflects the traditional architectural art of the people of this region. Although we do not know the exact dates, from each part of this object you have an honest handiwork. Look at the way the court is planted in the surrounding terrain, how it naturally merges with the landscape and creates a harmonious whole. The elements in front of you bear the manuscript of generations who knew exactly how to build a dwelling capable of facing mountain storms and snowdrifts. Try to imagine the kind of noise that prevailed when it was necessary to clear the harvest or prepare the economy for the coming winter.
When you stand there, it is fascinating to realize that this place has not only been marked by construction tools but, above all, by the fates of specific people, although often unknown today. The historical personalities that would be directly connected to this particular court are not being searched for, but that does not take away anything from its value. The true personalities of this place were all those nameless housewives and housekeepers, peasants and children who lived their lives, joys and worries. Every morning they got up at dawn, took care of the farm, and in the evening they thanked them for what fertile soil and cattle gave them. These invisible stories of mere human endurance are the most precious possessions of the settlement.
You may wonder what makes this place so special when no big names or revolutionary events have been preserved in history. That's where the most peculiar thing lies. The osturna itself is a living monument, an open-air museum where time stopped. This peasant settlement is a silent witness to the faithfulness of traditions and way of life, which has almost completely disappeared in modern times. It is a mystery and also a miracle that originally preserved objects that survived the transformations of centuries, social changes and modernization. When you touch the wall surface or look at the silhouette of the court, you touch the very essence of the past, which miraculously survived until our day.
Finally, I would like to invite you to stay for a while, to see the peaceful atmosphere of this place and to let your impressions come to light. The osturna has something magical in it, and this peasant settlement is her inseparable heart. Explore other corners of this distinctive village, see the smell of wood and meadow flowers and walk through the streets that remember ancient times. Thank you for listening to this story, I wish you a wonderful experience of further discovery and goodbye to our history.

For children
Imagine being able to teleport to the past for a while. It's not a science fiction movie, it's a real journey of time! Exactly 69 years ago, in 1957, everything started here. At that time, the world did not work as you know it today. There were no smartphones, no internet, no video games. There was silence that only interrupted the sound of the wind, the noise of the leaves, and the actions of the people who actually lived here.

Thematic route
Thematic tour route in the village Osturňa and its immediate surroundings:

Seasonal recommendations
The spring brings nature awakening to the Goral settlement in Osturn, as melting snow mixes with green grass and sunlight rays create contrasts on wooden houses with white aluminum cracks. During this period you will meet the minimum number of visitors. Since the terrain is muddy and wet after the snow melts, we recommend firm and unpromoted shoes. Cover your clothes because the spring weather in the sub-tratrans region is variable and the mornings are cold. A good time to explore is around noon when the sun warms the air and lights the interiors of the dwelling.
Summer surrounds wooden settlements in the colors of vegetation, flowering meadows form a backdrop for traditional architecture and noonday light casts shadows under carved floors. The air smells resin and hay and village operates in summer mode. During the holiday months the number of tourists is increasing, especially on weekends. Wrap your light, breathable clothing, sunglasses, and head cover, as you will feel warm in the direct sun as you inspect outdoor exposures.
Autumn turns the surrounding nature into a palette of shades from yellow to brown, while the low sun and morning fog from the surrounding slopes complete the environment. Tourism is falling, so you can go through historical objects in peace and silence, which disturbs the noise of fallen leaves under your feet. As temperatures drop in October and November and the weather changes, the equipment is a warm windproof jacket, hat and gloves. Good light for admiring details of Goral architecture reigns in the afternoon, before the sun drops beyond the ridges of the mountains and the valley dives into the shadows. Winter conceals wooden houses to the snow layer, smoke rises from chimneys and the settlement in the valley operates in the freezing air of the winter season. Visitors come at least at this time, but you have to count on shorter opening times and limited availability in the case of snow. The basis is to put on a number of layers of winter clothing, wear quality footwear with non-skid soles, and go out in the morning for a tour until daylight and temperatures fall deep below the freezing point.
