You are familiar with this modest but very significant remnant of our village heritage. You are standing in front of the Court of Farmers in Jablonov, which is one of the last well-maintained examples of the tradition of farmers' settlements in eastern Slovakia. At first glance, you may see it as just a simple color, but every detail of this building tells you about the life style of our ancestors, their efforts and how they have survived in this country. Let's go a little closer and look at this building with attention. In front of you is a typical peasant settlement, which consists of several buildings which are closely connected and thus form a whole complex. Note the atmosphere created by this settlement. It is a place where several generations of families were born and raised, where they were born and died, where they were prepared for a new day and where the most important moments of life were celebrated. The origin of this settlement is not exactly dated, but it is evident that it is the remnant of older traditions that have developed in this area for centuries. Farmers' settlements were typical of villages in eastern Slovakia, where people lived primarily by agriculture. These buildings were designed to be functional and economical, as reflected in their simple but solid construction solution. Buildings were built from local materials such as stone and wood, which were easily accessible and time-resistant. Nyní pay attention to the architectural details of this rolling estate. In front of you you have a typical farmhouse, which is built of stone and wood. Note how buildings are arranged in space. They are usually located close to each other to minimise the need for heating and to create a friendly and safe area for the family. You will notice how the windows are small and narrow, which was aimed at saving heat in the winter months. See how the stones are arranged in rows, creating a firm and stable look. Some of these stones can be very old, some even from the time the settlement first began to build. Perceive how the stones overlap and create firm and resistant wonders. This is one of the reasons why these buildings have persisted for so long and still stand as remains of our village heritage. In addition to architectural details, it is also important to perceive the life that has taken place in this settlement. Farmers were the center of family life. In them, children were born and raised, preparing for a new day and celebrating the most important moments, such as weddings, baptisms, or other family celebrations. For children

You can imagine that you are in 1862, when something very special began to build in a small field near the village of Jablonov. Not a church, not a castle, but a peasant settlement that has become a unique pearl of our village life. 164 years ago, houses began to be built here, which to this day have been preserved as if our ancestors had left them when they returned from work in the field. And that is by no means a trivial thing! This settlement, called the Court of Farmers, was built for people living on land and animals.

Seasonal recommendations

Peasant's Court in Jablonova

In the spring, the settlement is surrounded by flowering trees and greenery, which gives it a vivid appearance. Sunny days illuminate historical buildings and new leaves on trees. A visit in the early spring is appropriate when the temperature is pleasant and the crowds are still unintense. We recommend a walk with suitable clothing for the mist weather, possibly with insect protection.

In summer, the Court is peasant in full greenery and sunny days. In the main season the weather or crowd may be higher, so it is better to visit earlier in the morning or for the evening to enjoy a more relaxed atmosphere. It is appropriate to have sun protection and a warm backpack.

In a podium, green turns into gray and golden cuttings, creating colorful scenery. The period is suitable for a visit when temperatures are still pleasant and the trees have the nicest colors. For colder days we recommend multi-layered clothing and protection against dust.

In winter the settlement is covered with dream or green, which gives it a quiet atmosphere. Visitors are fewer, but the hours are often shortened. For winter days is suitable warm clothes, protective boots and backpack on sleeves. It is good to check the current information before visiting.
