Aspremontov palác Municipal palace with grounds
The Aspremont Palace is located in the Bratislava region, the village of Staré Mesto. It is a one-storey baroque palace and a national cultural monument of the Slovak Republic. The palace is located in the Medical Garden on Špitálská street number 24. Currently, the dean of the Faculty of Medicine of Comenius University resides here.
The palace was built for Count Johann Nepomuk Gobert dû Aspremont, who bought fields and gardens in 1769. In 1770 or 1771 he built it according to the project of architect Johann Joseph Thalherr. In 1781 the palace and the garden became the property of the Esterhazis. In the second half of the 19th century the Jankovitsova family bought the garden and in 1862 it was purchased by Bratislava merchant Karol Schiffbeck, according to him the palace was also known as Schiffbeck Palace.
The architecture of Aspremont Palace is characterized by its baroque style. The main façade goes to a garden adapted to French style, known as the Medical Garden. The palace is marked by the decor of Louis XVI., and its interiors contain motifs of laurels, ribbon garlands and medallions, which are preserved especially in the ceremonial hall. This room is today the room of the Scientific Council of the Faculty of Medicine of Comenius University. On 20 December 2004, the Chapel of Crucifixion was reconstructed and reopened in late Baroque style on the ground floor of the palace, where the altar of Crucifixion is made of red and white marble.
The Monument Office of the Slovak Republic records the area under number ÚZPF 263. This area consists of four objects: the palace (baroque late, 1770), fence (walled construction, metal, baroque late, 1770), monument (secesia, 1911) and garden (panel, baroque, 1770).
The Aspremont Palace is a place of great history. Its accessibility to the public allows visitors to explore its historical context and architecture, which are part of the rich cultural heritage of Slovakia.
