Townhouse in the locality Bratislava-Old The town is a terraced Renaissance building from about 1600. The building is registered by the Monument Office of the Slovak Republic under number ÚZPF 233.

The building represents the type of burgher house from the Renaissance period. In the Middle Ages, the city houses were mostly wooden, brick buildings appeared one way to the solvent owners. The typology of houses in this period depended on the material used, the method of heating, the financial options of the owner and the defense.

There were several types of burgher houses. Tower houses were block multi-storey buildings with a high stone wall that formed a defense system. Chamber houses had a simple longitudinal floor plan with a front room, black kitchen and a chamber. Hall houses had room halls even on the floor, while the crossing houses were functionally efficient and extended. Houses with height had reduced attic to store moisture sensitive goods, which was shown on the facade by a number of small windows.

During the Baroque period, especially in the 18th century, the nobility bought several houses and rebuilt them into representative city palaces with a landscaped front courtyard and decorated staircases. In the 19th century there were rental houses with magnificent gates and pavilion houses with a four - winged block and a central courtyard. On the outskirts of the city, often by the walls, were houses of poverty and iron houses.

In the 20th century, many objects were upgraded, especially in the parter, where the way of selling goods and advertising changed. The housing function has been preserved in burgher houses, although housing standards have changed.

This house in Bratislava represents the historical layer of urban buildings from the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries. It documents the development of the urban structure of the city and how narrow urban parcels are used.

Welcome to the historical heart of Bratislava, in the part of Old Town, where each stone tells its own story about ancient times. Right now, you are standing in front of a building that is a silent witness to the changes this city has seen in recent centuries. In front of you we are the townhouse, typical representative of the terraced buildings, which carries layers of history from Renaissance to modern times. When you look at it, you may first see only one of the many houses in this street, but if you stop and connect your imagination, you will begin to perceive the atmosphere of the old town hundreds of years ago. Let's now come crashing in time together and see when and how this house originated. The foundation of this building dates back to a thousand six hundred years, which means we're in front of the Renaissance building. During this period, the city was in development and the townspeople built their houses next to each other, creating a characteristic terraced building that you see today. Imagine the narrow streets, the noise of horses and chariots, and merchants who sold their goods directly from the crews of these houses. This house represents a key historical layer of urban buildings from the turn of the sixteenth and 17th centuries, making it a very valuable element of the Bratislava city picture. Nyni pay attention to the architecture itself and to what you can see right in front of you. Although we do not know the names of the specific architects who designed this house, the building itself tells us much about how people's needs have changed. Look at the overall structure of the house. Note how it fits into a series of other buildings, typical of densely built historical centers where every trace of the earth was precious. This house is not just a static building, but a document of urban development. If you look at the facade and general appearance, you can feel the effects of different periods. After the original Renaissance construction came in the eighteenth century Baroque adjustments. At that time, representative city palaces began to be built in the city, and even smaller burgher houses tried to adapt to new trends to make them more luxurious and robust. Subsequently, in the nineteenth century, the city continued to develop and rent and pavilion houses began to be built in Bratislava, which changed the dynamics of housing and the way people moved in the city. Let's move a little further in time until the twentieth century. When you're viewing a plotter of the house today, you see signs of modernization. During this period, significant adjustments were made to the ground-floor parts to meet the new standards of trade and housing. The change in housing standards in the 19th and 20th centuries meant that the interior was adapted to the new needs of families and entrepreneurs, leaving a mark on the outside of the building. Although historical records do not feature specific personalities closely connected to the house, that is what his fascination lies. This house does not belong to one famous family, but we are part of the story of a common city man, a craftsman, or a businessman who lived here, worked and raised his children. It is a story about every day life in Bratislava, about how the city changed from a small fortress to an important center. Are you interested in something unusual? Note that this object is not just an ordinary house, but is officially registered by the Monument Office of the Slovak Republic under the number of the ÚZPF two-stristo thirty-three. This means that the State recognises its historical and architectural value. The mysterious and interesting thing is how this house survived all the storms of history, war and reconstruction and still stands as a witness to how narrow urban parcels were used. It is a fascinating example of how a small space could build a functional building that served generations of people. You now see this house not only as part of the street, but as a layered archive. From the Renaissance beginning to Baroque details to modern parter adjustments. It's like a book where every epox wrote its chapter. I hope this short trip to the past has helped you to better perceive the beauty and importance of this townhouse. Now I invite you to go around the building for a while, to look at its detail in the context of the other houses in the Old Town, and perhaps, in spirit, to write down your own idea of who could live in this house four centuries ago. There are also other fascinating sights to help you complete the mosaic of the history of our capital city. Thank you for your attention and I wish you a pleasant next walk on Bratislava streets.

Tips for visitors

Visit the house early in the morning or late in the evening when the streets of Old Town are quieter. Since it is a residential building, respect the privacy of the people and focus on the exterior.

We recommend shoes with comfortable soles due to the stone surface in the historical center. For detailed pictures of the facade, we recommend using a camera or mobile phone with high-quality optics.

From the point of view of the photo, the most appropriate moments are shortly before sundown, when light highlights the details of the house.

Families with children can look for ornaments and historical elements on the facade.

For children

Imagine Bratislava from 1600. Cars and asphalt roads will disappear around you. Instead, you feel the smell of baked bread, you hear the hobbies of stone tiles, and you see people in hats and long dresses.

In the heart of the Old Town stands a house from the time of the Renaissance. At that time he served as a home for the townspeople. The townspeople were then entrepreneurs who traded substances, spices, or metals. In the morning, salesmen shouted in the street, business deals were settled in the houses, and children ran down narrow streets.

In spring the townhouse in Bratislava-Starom The city discovers in bright light and the urban greenery flourishes around it. It's a good time to observe the details of the facade. It is recommended to walk in the morning when light is gentle. Due to variable weather, it is advisable to dress with layers.

Summer season brings intense sunlight, which highlights the colors and textures of the building.
