Welcome to Uhrovsky Podhradie. Right now, you are standing in front of the Uhrovec Castle, an impressive witness of ancient times who is spreading his presence over you. At the first sight of this monument, you can experience a special tranquillity that accompanies places with a long history. Feel the atmosphere of this place and try to imagine what this place looked like hundreds of years ago when life pulsed in another rhythm.
Uhrovec Castle is an integral part of the Trenčín region. Although the exact dates of its creation and the names of the architects who designed it remained in the mysteries of time and are not exactly documented today, the very existence of this castle speaks of the strategic importance of this site. Castle complexes were not usually created by chance; they were built as defence points, administrative centres and settlements of noble families, which were to control the surrounding valley and ensure stability in the region.
Now, when you look at the castle, look at its overall disposition. Although we do not know exactly who built it, the architecture of the castle reflects the needs of its time. Look at the way the building connects with the terrain. Note how the natural relief of the country helped in the defense and how the castle naturally becomes the dominant of the entire Uhrovsky Podhradie. Follow the lines of walls and see the massiveness of the structure, which should resist the pressure of enemies while providing refuge to residents from the surrounding area.
Let us now consider the people who lived here. Although in the historical records within the available documents do not feature specific names of personalities closely connected to this place, each stone of this castle bears the mark of thousands of anonymous people. They were knights, servants, craftsmen, and nobles who spent their days here, planning the future, and facing the challenges of their century. It is this unknownness of particular names that gives the site a certain kind of mysticism. The Uhrovec Castle is not only a story of several well-known families, but a story of the whole community that has developed here over the ages.
There is a mystery in every historical object. In the case of the Uhrovec Castle, the greatest mystery is what remains unknown. Unknown chronology and the absence of concrete changes of architects force us not only to be guided by facts in the books, but to listen to the story that the architecture itself tells us. What would the castle say if he could speak? What secrets hide its walls? It's this unfamiliarity that makes us detectives of history.
Now we invite you to slowly move on and explore the surroundings in peace. Let yourself be guided by your curiosity and feel the silence that surrounds you. Uhrovec Castle is a place where time has slowed down, and we recommend that you keep this apprehension as long as possible. Go through the surrounding roads, look at the castle from different angles and try to feel the connection to the past that is still present here.
Thank you for spending this short moment with us at the Uhrovec Castle. We hope that you are interested in this place and that you will take beautiful memories of the Trencin region from your trip. We wish you a pleasant further journey and a pleasant discovery of other gems of our country. Goodbye.
Tips for visitors
The best time to visit the Castle Uhrovec is early autumn or late spring, when surrounding nature Strážovské vrchy offers beautiful scenery and the weather is ideal for hiking without summer heat. The road to the castle leads on foot from the village of Uhrovské Podhradie forest trail, so do not forget to take with you solid tourist shoes, plenty of drinking water and suitable clothing into the nature. To photograph castle exteriors and picturesque remnants of medieval architecture will serve the best morning light that beautifully illuminates the southern slopes and ruins. Since there are no special attractions close to the castle, the trip is suitable to combine with discovering the natural beauty of Strážovské vrchy and surrounding forest environment, which provides ideal conditions for lovers of peace and tourism. For families with children, the climb to the castle represents a pleasant walk through the forest, but due to uneven terrain and climbing it is necessary to take care of the safety of the smallest visitors and choose the appropriate pace.

Seasonal recommendations
In spring, the mountains of Strážov come to life with green light, and the sun's rays illuminate the stone walls of the castle. The period is suitable for photography because the treetops are not fully polished and the ruins excel in the country. For a walk through the steep forest trail from Uhrovský Podhradie, choose solid trek shoes and windproof jacket. The terrain is soaked and slippery after spring snow and rain.
During the summer, the castle is surrounded by dense vegetation that provides shade on the lower parts of the exit. The upper parts of the masonry are exposed to the intense midday sun. Take the trip early in the morning. Pack enough drinking water, head cover and breathable clothing.
Autumn nature turns the colors of the surrounding valley into yellow, red and brown. The low sun creates interesting shadows and morning mist covers the valley. For hike during this period is necessary layered clothing, warm cap and non-promot layer. The weather in the mountains is rapidly changing and the leaves on the pavements can be slippery.
Winter months will cover the castle and the Strážovské hills in silence. Snow-covered landscapes and frozen tree branches create views of the snowy surroundings. There is peace on the route, but daylight is short, so schedule a visit to the morning. Safety on the icy forest trail is provided by winter shoes and skid slippers. The necessity is warm clothes and gloves.
