evangelical church Church
Evangelical church in Vlachov in the Košice region is originally a Gothic building from the end of the 15th century, part of the fenced area. It has a fortification from the 17th century and preserved Gothic elements in the basement.
The church was founded probably in the late 15th century to its present extent. Local tradition states that the Hussites built the building. The original patrocinium was the purification of the Virgin Mary. In the 17th century, during the state uprisings, they built a wall with guns.
It is a small single-ship building with a rounded conclusion of the Presbytery and the western tower. From the Gothic period remained the perimeter walls, tower and underhang. In the foothills are iron forged doors from the 16th century mounted into the Gothic portal and Gothic windows with barbeds; the space covers rolling vault.
In 1870, the church underwent a major reconstruction due to poor technical condition, supported financially by Count Emanuel Andráši. That's when the ship and the presbytery were new. The building was subsequently restored after the fire in 1904 and between 1948 and 1950.
The interior contains an eclectic altar from 1880. There is an organ positive from Tobiah Kirner in 1875. The tower has five bells from 1904 and 1922. An inventory of churches of the Archdiocese of Esztergom from 1733 - 1737 mentions the presence of frescoes, which has not yet been confirmed.
The building has been declared a national cultural monument since 1 January 1988. The services of God are held every Sunday at 9:30; a parish office in Vlachov needs to be contacted for a visit.

We welcome you to Vlachovo, in the heart of the Košice region, where a silent witness has now stood before you for many centuries of history. Look at this evangelical church with its area. The first look at the construction may evoke peace and moderation, but if you dig into it, you will find that every stone here tells a story about survival, whirlwind, and defense. You stand in front of a place that is not just a religious building but a real fortress to protect its builders in turbulent times. Now let's plunge deeper into the past to understand how this building originated. Although today's form bears traces of later adjustments, the roots of this church date back to the end of the 15th ego century. This is originally a Gothic construction that was created at a time when new ideas broke through in Europe and in our territories. According to the local tradition still preserved in this area, the construction of Hussites was built. Imagine, then, the atmosphere over five hundred years ago, when the first walls were rebellious in the spirit of the Reformation. It was a period of search for truth and spiritual freedom, as reflected in the very character building. Now, when you see the overall area, notice something very specific. This church was designed not only for prayer but also for defense. If you look at the surrounding walls, you will realize that a fortification was built in the seventeenth century, about a thousand and six hundred years ago. At that time, the region was paralyzed by the professional uprisings, which brought uncertainty and danger. To make believers feel safe, the church was transformed into a so - called fortified church. Note, within the walls of the shooting range, that an active defense was conducted in the event of an attack. It is fascinating to think that the place that today serves for peaceful contemplation was once a strategic point where the guards watched the horizon to warn the community of the coming danger in time. Now I want to invite you to pay attention to the details that may escape at first sight, but are crucial for understanding the architecture of this place. Look at the subway structure. It was there that Gothic windows with stings, which are directly connected to the original form from the late 15th century, lived to andyday. They are traces of ancient art skills that have survived all the storms of history. And if you notice an iron forged door, realize that it comes from the sixteenth century. This door is not only a functional element, but a work of art in its time that separates worldly chaos from the sanctified quiet within. But the beautiful and deeper stories are hidden in how the building changed in time. The history of this church is a story of constant renewal. In the year one thousand eight hundred seventy passed the church a fundamental reconstruction. At that time there was a new enclosing of the ship and the presbytery, which significantly changed the interior space and gave it new dynamism and stability. However, it was not a road without obstacles. The year thousand nine hundred and four was painful for the village of Vlachovo because the church was hit by fire. The flames destroyed part of the building, but the faith and determination of the local people were stronger. The church was then restored to serve the community. Another major recovery took place in the mid-20th century, namely between the years one thousand nine hundred forty-eight and a thousand nine hundred fifty. It was the last major reconstruction that ensured that the building would live to our days in good condition. Thanks to this care and historical value the church with the area in the year thousand nine hundred eighty-eight was declared a national cultural monument. With this act, the state admitted that this place is not only a local church but an important fragment of Slovak cultural identity. Now let's stop at one interesting thing that gives this place a heel of mystery. We mentioned the geese and their supposed role in the construction. Although historical springs are sometimes ambiguous, this local tradition gives the church a unique character in Vlachovo. The idea that five hundred years ago people with such radical thoughts were here will change your view of this quiet area. It is a place where spiritual reform meets military architecture and where gothic flows smoothly into later adjustments. Now that you've regained the whole structure, try to imagine all the layers of time that you're going to combine. From Gothic windows and forged doors from the sixteenth century, through the shooting range from the uprisings to the more recent 19th-century clashes. Each of these elements is like a chapter in a book that you now read with your eyes. Dear visitor, you face a monument that has survived fires, wars and regime changes, but it is still there to commemorate the strength of the community and the duration of traditions. We invite you now to go through the entire area in peace, to touch the cold of the old walls, and perhaps in silence to imagine how a guard stood here in the shooting rooms centuries ago and stared far away. Thank you for your attention and for taking the time to discover this gem in Vlachovo. We wish you a pleasant next day and a pleasant journey through the beautiful places of Košice region.
