evanjelický kostol Church
Evangelic church in Blatnica, located in the Žilina region, was built in 1786. It is a single-boat building with elements of rustic architecture and is declared a national cultural monument.
The first evangelical priest in Blatnica was documented in 1597. After the church of St. Andrew was removed in Sebeslavce in 1709, believers used the Tolerance Patent, which allowed them to build their own temple and restore church buildings. The foundation stone of the church was laid on May 15, 1786 under the patronage of Eva Roth, wife of Gabriel Pronaius. The construction was entrusted to the unknown master of Kremnica and completed in the autumn of the same year.
The church is located at the foot of the Great Fatra, together with the parish and economic buildings form a closed area. The floor plan has a Latin cross, which gained after the extension of the altar space in 1838. The tower, built in 1817 on the 300th anniversary of the beginning of the Reformation, is finished with a ledge and helmet with decorative mac and cross. In the tower there is a single-armed wooden staircase leading to the empor.
The interior is dominated by a three-armed empora with metal columns with marble. The wooden beam ceiling probably comes from the period of enlargement in 1838. The altar is a late baroque-classicist, made as a pulpit with a speech and decorative extension. The stone baptistery from 1838 has a cannelled waist and decoration with plastic petals. In the interior there is a picture of Christ in Gethsemane garden from the second half of the 19th century.
Originally the church was built without a tower due to construction restrictions. Of the three original bells, only one was preserved; the other bell was added in 1923. In 1906 the chandelier was added and in 1913 the newly-classicist organ. A comprehensive recovery took place between 1970 and 1980.
The church in Blatnica is an example of tolerance architecture from the period of classicalism and retains historical valuable elements.
