Manor house and park in the village Hraň in Košice region are eclectic buildings from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, shaped by the way of English rural settlements. The area is registered by the Slovak Monument Office under the number ÚZPF 1640 and consists of a manor house and a landscape park.

The building was designed in 1903 by architect Ludvig Baumann for the Almáši family, which owned the village of Hran since the end of the 18th century.

It is an eclectic structure with a separation that visually reduces the size of the object. The central area was the hall with free staircase to the floor. The building has a stone masonry, high brick chimneys, verandas with Tuscan columns, and riddled parts of vickers and upper floors. Between the windows there are large areas with dense glazing raster and a circular window in the former chapel with Gotizing elements.

In the 20th century, the object has undergone significant changes. There is a hypothesis that the last count lost the mansion in the cards. During World War II, the building served as an internment camp. Since the beginning of the 50's there is a children's psychiatric hospital with a capacity of 160 beds. In the late 1990s the building was restored.

The current state of the building reflects its use as a medical facility. Part of the area is a park from around 1900.

Welcome to the village of Hran. Right now you are standing in front of a building that has been hiding in it for over a hundred years of history and which, in its form, is significantly turning away from the normal architecture of this region. In front of you there is a manor house with an enclosed park, a place that may surprise you at first sight with its elegance and atmosphere of a peaceful rural settlement. At the moment, feel the overall impression of this building and the surrounding environment surrounding you.

Now let's rush into the past to understand how this object was created. Manor house in the village The edge was formed at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Specifically in 1903 came the plans that entrusted the design of the building to an architect named Ludvig Baumann. The whole project was designed for the Almáši family, for which this building was to serve as a representative family residence. In that contemporary context, it was a manifestation of status and taste in the then nobility, which tried to bring trends from the European area into local conditions.

Now, when you look closer at the architecture itself, notice that it is an eclectic structure. Eclecticism is a style that combines elements from different historical periods and cultures. In the case of this manor house, the dominant inspiration is the way of English rural settlements, which gives it the specific character that you now see in front of you. Your look now please move to the details of the facade. Note verandas decorated with Tuscan columns. These columns give the building stability and gewissej a measure of classical fading. In addition, you will find a former chapel in the building, which is interesting by its Gotistic elements. It is a fascinating contrast to the overall appearance of the seat, where various architectural languages are combined in one whole.

However, the vitality of this house is not just about aesthetics and architecture. Over the centuries, the building has undergone dramatic changes in its use, reflecting the stormy history of Central Europe. If we stop at the time of World War II, namely between 1940 and 1945, the building no longer served as a family home. At this time, there was an internship camp. It is freezing to think that these elegant walls, designed for the comfort of the Almási family, have witnessed the difficult life experiences of people during the war.

Time went on and after the war, the function of the object changed again. In 1950 the operation of a children's psychiatric hospital started here. Each era has left its mark in these corridors, from the luxury of the beginning of the century, to the suffering of war, to trying to help the most vulnerable members of society, children with mental health problems.

You may wonder what state the building is in today. After a long period of intensive use and natural wear, the object was restored in the late nineteenth century. Thanks to these reconstruction works, today we can admire this architectural jewel in a form that brings us back to Ludvig Baumann's original vision.

It's fascinating how one building can represent the different polarities of human life. On the one hand, we have the beauty of an English country mansion, Tuscan columns and gossiping elements of the chapel that speak of art and aesthetics. On the other hand, we have a silent testimony to the internment camp and treatment, which reminds us of our responsibility to history and humanity. It is this contrast that makes the mansion in the Edge a place with a deep emotional charge.

Now that you know the story of this house, I'm inviting you to another search. Go through the surrounding park areas, view the silence of this place and give yourself a moment to think about how many stories have been covered in these walls. Follow the details that we mentioned, and try to imagine what this place looked like in 1903, when it was first opened by the Almási.

Thank you for your attention and for discovering with us the history of the manor house in the village of Hran. We wish you a pleasant rest of the day and a pleasant continuation in your journey to Košice region.

Tips for visitors

We recommend a visit in spring or autumn when nature is in the park in bloom or autumn colors. You can reach the village of Hran by car or public transport; check your current connections in online search engines. Take comfortable shoes and repellent to the park. We recommend to the photographers the time shortly before darkening the sun, when the low light highlights the details of the facade of the manor house and the texture of the trees. In the area you can concentrate on exploring the manor house and its octagonal park.

For children

Close your eyes and imagine pressing a secret button on a time machine. Boom! It carries you right back 123 years. The neighborhood looks quite different, people wear special hats and ride horses instead of cars. It was at this time, in 1903, that a fascinating house arose, which looks like someone cut it out of a fairy tale about English nobles.

Thematic route

I propose a thematic route within the area of the memorial:

Seasonal recommendations

In the spring around the manor house in the village of Hraň flower trees and the park is green. This is an appropriate period for walks. Suitable for wet soil and layered clothing due to morning cold.

The summer season brings full flowering of the park and shade during the outdoors tour. The sun sheds light on architecture, but the glow can be intense. The visit is more pleasant in the early morning or late evening hours. Easy clothing and sun protection are essential.

The golden and reddish tones of leaves prevail in the fall in the park at the edge. Soft and warm lighting is favorable for photography historic object. It is practical to wear tight soles and windproof clothing.

Winter in the area prevails silence. The bare treetops reveal a view of the manor house, which is covered with leaves in summer. Snow cover changes the appearance of the monument. During the visit it is necessary to warm, waterproof clothing and shoes with slippers on frozen origin.
