Welcome to one of the silent witnesses of history in Prešov region. You are standing in front of the castle of Plaveč, a place that at first sight will drag you into its mysterious atmosphere. Look around you and see the silence that surrounds this place. Before you there is a monument, which, although perhaps not the most famous of our castles, bears the inseparable weight of time and stories that have been rooted in the walls and surroundings over many centuries.
Now, when you stop and look around, try to imagine what this place looked like at the time of its greatest glory. Although the exact chronology of origin and the specific names of architects remained in the mysteries of events, the Plaveč Castle stood in strategic positions that allowed it to control the surrounding valley and protect important roads. Such fortifications were not accidental. They were built as a symbol of power, a defense system against incoming threats and administrative centers of local administration. Although we do not know exactly who laid the first stone, we know that each part of this complex had a clear purpose, and each wall had the task of providing its inhabitants with no feathers.
Now take a slow look at the construction itself. Note the overall disposition and the way the castle naturally connects with the terrain. During the tour, focus on the details ahead. Follow the lines of walls and perceive the texture of materials that survived centuries of wind, rain and snow. Look at how architecture adapted to the relief of the country. It is in this lurking of nature that the greatest charm of this place is felt. Note how the castle sits dominantly in its environment, while its silhouette creates an unmistakable picture in the panorama of the village Plaveč.
If we look for specific historical personalities that would be closely connected to this place, we will find that the history of Plaveč castle is covered by a certain mlhovite. Many names died with time or were not recorded in documents ausreichendo. This does not mean, however, that the castle was empty. Imagine the generations of soldiers, serving and nobility who lived here, worked and perhaps loved. Each of them added its small part to the overall story of this place. Although we cannot name a particular knight or ruler who would leave his indelible signature here, their presence is felt in every step you are doing now on this soil.
It is in this unknownness that the greatest mystery of the Plaveč Castle lies. Why don't we know so much about him as we do about other castles in the region? What happened to archives and records that would reveal exact dates and names? This ignorance, however, is not a shortcoming, but rather an invitation to imaginary. The Castle Plaveč is like an open book from which some pages have been pulled, but the rest of the story is still readable from its very nature. It is a place where history meets legends and where every visitor can complete the missing details with his own reflections and feelings.
Now that you have gone through the basic information and you have seen the atmosphere of this historic area, I invite you to embark on your own journey of discovery. Go through the surrounding roads, stop by the details that will interest you, and give yourself a moment of meditation on how much the world has changed since this castle fulfilled its protective function. Let your curiosity guide you and try to feel the spirits of the past that still exist.
I hope this short trip to the past has helped you to better understand the meaning of the castle Plaveč and that you have taken time to observe this monument peacefully. Thank you for your attention and I wish you a pleasant rest of the day in further exploring the beauty of Prešov region. Let the other roads prosper and let history always inspire you to new discoveries. Goodbye.

The castle Plaveč is recommended to visit in spring or autumn. At that time the temperatures in Prešov region are favourable to movement in the field. Pack tight shoes with soles into the backpack, as the surface around the castle may be uneven and slippery. We recommend to the photographers the time shortly before the solar eclipse, when light highlights the details of the object and the landscape.
