Saint Nicholas Church is located in the village Bratislava-Old Town. It is an Orthodox sacral building with rich history and architectural features of the early Baroque. It was built in 1661 by Franz Khuen, a widow of Palatin Paul Palffy. His original building was motivated by fear of Turkish danger, which led to the destruction of the original Gothic church in 1550. This new church was originally intended for the Roman Catholic Church and belonged to the parish of St. Martin's Cathedral.

Architecturally it is a simple but elegant building with a single-boat space in the western-eastern orientation. Polygonally closed presbytery gives the temple a specific shape. The main facade is finished with a shield, on which there is a square wooden tower with a bell tower. The top of the southern façade is decorated with a stone portal with a rugged tympanum and relief of the Palffy husbands' coats, created by a precise stone master. Above the portal there is a nika with a statue of the patron saint church.

The interior of the church contains the main altar with an image of St. Nicholas, which is from the original equipment. The pulpit is a work Peter Brandenthal from the 18th century.

During his long history, the temple went through several ownership changes. After a declining number of religious Roman Catholic churches stopped using the church and put it into use by the Greek Catholic Church. In 1945 the church burned down at the end of World War II, but in 1945 - 1950 it was reconstructed by the Greek Catholic parish. After the violent destruction of the Greek Catholic Church in 1950, the Orthodox Church took over, which still continues to use it.

Today, regular services are held in St. Nicholas' temple and there is a reconstruction project in preparation.

For children

365 years ago, a picturesque church was raised in Bratislava, promising hidden mysteries and quarrel beauty. This St. Nicholas temple stands as a monument to the time when changes were manifested in every stone and in the smiles of men. In 1661 this place was revived by a new life, when Františka Khuen, the widow of Palatin Paul Pálffy, built a temple on the site of an old Gothic church. This original church was destroyed in 1550 from Turkish danger, so Františka decided to protect her community with a new, stronger and more cozy chapel.
