st John the Baptist's Church Church
St John the Baptist church is a Roman Catholic parish church from the 14th century in the town district of Stráž under the Tatras in Poprad. Construction combines Gothic elements and Baroque reconstruction.
Originally, it was a single-ship building with a western tower and probably a polygonal sanctuary. Historical sources indicate that the object was to be rebuilt in the Middle Ages on a double ship.
From the Gothic period the tower, part of the perimeter walls and the southern concession portal decorated with plant motifs on the warheads was preserved. Another medieval detail is the 14th - century Bronze Baptist. Above the stairs to the tower there is a walled bolt from the removed Gothic vault with the relief of the head of Christ.
The shape of the church changed in 1777 during the Baroque reconstruction. Then they built a new presbytery and a new vault of the ship. The facade was also affected, where the original Gothic windows were replaced by new ones. In 1927 they built a monastery of redemptors on the north side.
In the interior there is the main altar with the 18th century picture of the Baptism of Christ in the Jordan. Lateral oltäre are dedicated to the Divine Heart of Jesus and the Virgin Mary. The area is registered by the Monument Office of the Slovak Republic under number ZZPF 844.

Seasonal recommendations
The spring brings a gradual awakening of nature and the surrounding scenery offers fresh colors, while longer days allow you to admire the exterior of the building in daylight even in the evening, when the sun's rays create interesting shadows on the historical masonry. Wear layered clothing and tight, non-promoting shoes, as spring weather tends to be variable and grassy areas in the surrounding area may be even wet after the fall, while the best time to visit is morning, when morning fog supplies the site a mystical atmosphere.
The summer will mask Poprad into the warm sunshine and the surrounding greenery will blossom to the full, which provides a wonderful contrast to the ancient stones of St. John the Baptist church and offers pleasant conditions for longer stays outside. In the main summer season there are more visitors in the region, so if you prefer quiet and peaceful meditation while admiring the exterior of the monument, go here early in the morning or later in the evening, when temperatures fall and light is the finest.
Autumn paints undertatran nature into warm shades of yellow, red and brown, which creates a picturesque scenery for the historic object and morning mist rolling from the surroundings add a melancholy and romantic place. During arid autumn days, you will meet only a minimum of people here, which will be appreciated by all seeking silence and space for sensitive walks without disturbing influences. For this tour, equip yourself with a windproof jacket, warm sweater and comfortable shoes suitable for fallen leaves, while the best time to visit is in the afternoon when the low autumn sun creates warm and soft lighting ideal for capturing the structure of the facade.
Winter transforms Poprad into a snowy landscape, where the silence of white plans and the sharp, clean mountain air emphasizes the monumental silhouette of the church, which during this period is extremely lofty and humble. High-quality winter clothes including cap, gloves, warm scarf and sturdy shoes with non-slip soles are essential, while visiting around noon when daylight is most noticeable and temperatures reach their daily maximum.
