Articular church Wooden church and belfry

Wooden articular church in Hronsek, Banská Bystrica region, is a monument to Slovak sacral architecture. It is located in the village Hronsek and was built in 1725-1726. Its origin was caused by insufficient space for Protestant church ceremonies in the Renaissance mansion, which was located in Hronsek. When space for visitors from the surrounding area was not enough, the building of a new articular church was determined.

Architecture and creation are excellent. The church is built in the shape of a cross, longer shoulder has a length of 23 m, shorter 18 m, and its height is 8 m. The building is a wooden structure of oak and spruce wood. The use of the classic connecting technique of the main supporting elements, connected by carpentry joints and wooden pins, is one of its distinctive characteristics. The inner vault resembles the shape of the inverted ship.

In the architecture there are elements of Scandinavian architecture, such as columns on the chores and under the chores, decorated with Ionian ornament. Entrance shelters indicate that artisans from Norway or Sweden worked on the construction site. Amphitheatrial arrangement of the choir benches is another unique element.

The altar has six interchangeable images, made by Master Samuel Kialovich of 1771. Above the altar are angels holding coats of arms of noble families from the surroundings, who supported the Evangelical Church. The organ is the work of master Martin Podkonický from Banská Bystrica and belongs to rare Baroque organs. It comes from 1764. Chandelier, originally gilded, is the gift of the richer Martin Hudec of the Great Lúka.

The total capacity of the church is 1 100 seats. There are 5 entrances to the church and 30 windows around the church perimeter. The roof is shingled with three crosses and a rooster - a symbol of Christian alertness.

Near the church there is a bell tower with the same architecture, which was built simultaneously with the church in 1726. In the courtyard of the church there are three old lime trees, which were planted at the ecclesiastical church.

In 1990, extensive damage to wood and wooden structures was found caused by insectwood, fungi, and rot. The whole static was compromised. Surveys and restoration proposals have been carried out since 2005. It was restored organ, paintings and wooden structures. In 2023 the church is already open to the public.

On July 7th, 2008 the church and the bell tower were included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
