The church of Saints Cyril and Methodius, located in the village of Selce in Banská Bystrica region, is one of the oldest sacral buildings in the region around Banská Bystrica. This church with its area stands on Partizánska Street and its history unfolds until the first half of the 15th century. Its architecture combines early Gothic elements with later added elements.

Selce is already mentioned in 1332 under the name "Omnes Sancti de Zolli" referring to the patron of the church, All Saints. The church was founded by the elected countyman Dônč, which is confirmed in an annex to the excelling list of King Charles Robert dated 1 November 1340. Originally, the village was a swampy place, and according to legend, Old Selce fell underground. In the village there were also watchtowers on the hills above the valley, as well as the prehistoric castle Þ Hrádok.

The church was originally dedicated to all saints and later since 1886 it was dedicated to the church of St. Cyril and Methodius. Its architecture dates back to the first half of the 13th century, which proves the original inscriptions in it. Pope John XXII mentioned in the 14th century the parish of All Saints with a brick church, indicating its existence before 1323. This early Gothic church was built of wood and later transformed into stone construction in the 14th century.

Architecturally, the church is buried from presbytery, sacristy, ships and chapels that come from the Gothic period. The tower with neo-Gothic exterior was added in 1894. The chapel has 1516 on the top of the pillar and the original portal with broken arch. The Marian Chapel was connected with the ship before 1806, probably as a family place for the last rest of the noble Seleck family.

The church has undergone many changes and dramatic events. In 1863, the only Mass in Slovakia was held, which was associated with the millennium of Constantine and Methodius to Great Moravia. After World War I, Hungarian soldiers carried five bells from the church that were melted to produce new weapons. The new bell was purchased in 1920 and on April 12, 1927, the glagles of all bells were again called.

In 1918 the church's monstrance was stolen, decorated with precious stones and brilliants, as well as a golden cup. In the vicinity of the Jubilee of the Slavic Apostles of Great Moravia, an image of St. Cyril and Methodius was placed on the main altar.

Today, the church with its own strenuousness from 1984, when the interior was modified under the direction of priest Jozef Okkel. The church stands as a monument to historical events and architecture of the region. Its area is registered by the Monument Office of the Slovak Republic under the number ÚZPF 76.
