Siebert family curio in the village Koniarovce in the Nitra region is a baroque building from the 18th century with an appropriate area. The building has undergone a new-classicist reconstruction and the complex has a historic ornamental garden.

The building was built in the middle of the 18th century by the genus Batthyány de Geresgál. After the fire in 1825, the curio was damaged and a new object was created in the area. Around the middle of the 19th century, the owner Adolf von Hohenstögh brought together both buildings into one unit. With the newly classicistic conversion to the shape of the letter L and the addition of the portico, the creation of an ornamental garden overlooking the river Nitra and the construction of a small chapel in its southeastern corner. Originally part of the area were also greenhouse and building maier.

It is a single-storey two-winged building with an L-shaped floor plan. On the facade there is eight-axis and facade are divided by rectangular windows with a ledge in the upper frame. Inside are preserved flat tracks. The area is listed in the Central List of the Slovak Republic's Monument Fund under number 10743 (Curia 10743/1, Garden 10743/2).

In 1884 Jakob Leopold Siebert acquired the heat from the Prussian Hadamar, which made the building modifications. Between 1903 and 1905, the ornamental garden was rebuilt. The intervention was funded by Bolivian Consul Felix Bischoff of Duisburg as a gift to his brother-in-law Leopold Siebert. The design was inspired by the Villa Monrepos in Geisenheim.

During World War II, the curio was occupied by a German army, which built a crew here and dug defence trenches in the garden. In 1945, the building was shot and then conquered by Russian troops as the front crossed. These troops in the premises created a staff and a military hospital, causing damage to the facility and its facilities.

Until 1946 the heirs of Jacob Leopold Siebert remained the owners. After the nationalization of the property, they lived in two rooms in sublease, while other families were moved to other parts. The building gradually deteriorated, as the village did not invest in its maintenance and organized entertainment in the premises. After 1992, litigation over the restitution of property followed. In 1993 the curio and garden were declared a cultural monument.

In 2001 the last living member of the genus Siebert sold the object Zuzane Zerdahelyi with the family when the building was in crash condition. Between 2002 and 2017 a complex reconstruction of the curie, economic buildings and historical garden took place. Works were carried out self-help and with the help of local tradesmen without subsidies. The competition project was processed by Jozef Student.

The building is in good condition today and the building is accessible at Pri kúria 108. The monument is an example of maintaining a family home after a period of neglect.

We welcome you to the village of Koniarovce, in the Nitra region, where a silent witness of ancient times is now standing before you. Look at the building that welcomed you. You are in front of the curia of the Siebert family, an object that together with its complex forms an important part of local history and landscape. When you face this building like this, you may perceive the peaceful atmosphere of this place, which invites you to stop and think about the stories that have been going on forever.

The curio of the Siebert family is a baroque building whose roots go back to the eighteenth century. Although the exact details of its founders or specific time architects are not known today, the building itself speaks the clear language of its day. At that time, the curies were the centers of administration of the estate and the settlements of noble families that influenced the life of the surroundings. This building in Koniarovce is not just an ordinary house, but a symbol of social status and aesthetic ideas of previous generations.

now take a closer look at the architecture itself. Note the overall layout of the building. The original baroque structure did not remain in its original shape, because in later times it passed the modifications that gave it its present character. The most significant change is to remake the soil into the shape of the letter L, which added dynamics to the building and expanded its premises. In addition, a portik was added to the building, which highlights the entrance and adds elegance and representativeness to the overall appearance. Look at the lines of the building and see how baroque foundation is associated with later additions that were intended to make the cure a luxurious seat.

Let's go now to one of the most interesting parts of the whole area, which is the ornamental garden. If you look around, you will see a space designed to provide a beautiful view of the river Nitra. This site is not accidental, because the proximity of the water has always added to the value and aesthetics of the noble settlements. The garden you see went through a major wake-up call in the years one thousand nine hundred three and one thousand nine hundred five. What is fascinating is the fact that this rebuilding was not random, but based on a particular template. Inspiration was the Villa Monrepos in Geisenheim. Imagine, then, that in the heart of the Nitra region they tried to recycle European trends and bring here a touch of foreign architecture and garden art.

However, the history of this place is not just about beauty and aesthetics. The curio and its area are also witnessing more tragic events from the latest period of history. Now, if you look at the garden space, it may be realized that the cloud days of World War II survived. It was in this castle, which was supposed to be a place of rest and beauty, that the German army dug up defence elements. It's a frosty contrast when we realize that instead inspired by the Villa Monrepos has for a short time turned into a strategic point of military nature.

The curio of the Siebert family thus connects several faces. It is first the Baroque elegance of the eighteenth century, then it is the ambition of the early twentieth century that brought elements from Geisenheim to Koniarovic, and finally it is st posting with the dramatic events of world war. All these layers of time are carved into the walls of this building and into the soil of this garden.

Now we invite you to go through the entire area in peace. Feel the silence that now prevails, and try to imagine how Siebert family members have been doing here in the past, as the guests have spoken in touch, and how the sun was reflected in the rainfall at the surface of the river Nitra. Let yourself be guided by your curiosity and look at the facade and layout of the building that reminds you of the letter L.

We hope this short trip to the past has helped you to better understand the meaning of the Siebert family cures. It is a place where architecture, nature and history meet in one context. Thank you for sharing this moment with us. We wish you a pleasant further stay in Koniarovce and a pleasant discovery of other gems in this region.
