Welcome to St. Elizabeth's parish in Košice-Old Town

You stand before one of the most important sacral buildings in our territory - in front of the parish of St. Elizabeth, which is part of the Košice Cathedral and a separate monument with a rich history. This parish building, located on Main Street under the number 16/26, is a national cultural monument and its historical value is invaluable. Let's go and dive together into her secrets and beauty that she hides from you.

The first thing you are attracted to is her majestic architecture, which is harmoniously forming into the historical core of Kosice. St. Elizabeth's parish can be considered a unique combination of Baroque and Gothic aesthetics manifested in its media. Let's take a careful look at her facade, which is the first to receive you. Note the atmosphere created here by a combination of stone blocks and details that reflect centuries of the past.

Its origin and precise chronology were not preserved detailed records, but it is clear that St. Elisabeth's parish existed here at the time when Košice became an important spiritual center. Its origin is connected with the development of St. Elizabeth's Cathedral, which was built in the 13th century and was then one of the most important churches in Slovakia. It served as an administrative and spiritual center for parishioners and priests who worked here to care for the spiritual life of the local inhabitants.

NYNIS Look at her neighborhood. St. Elisabeth's parish can be considered part of the complex of the dome, but it is also a separate building that differs from its architecture. Her facade is simple but majestic, with elements that refer to Gothic style. See how this building comes into the historical context of Košice and how it became part of their cultural memory. Let us now move on to something that is very characteristic of this parish - its inner architecture. Although it is not possible to enter the interior of the parish house, which is part of this monument, it can be imagined how it looked inside in the past. The parish house was always the center of spiritual life, and various ceremonies, preaching, and communities were held here. Its interior was probably rich in art, such as frescoes, sculptures and other artificial details that provided spiritual and aesthetic value to the building.

One of the most interesting things about this parish is its connection with the history of Košice and Slovakia. In the past, there were several prominent clergymen who deserved to develop religious life and education in our territory. For example, in the 18th century there was priest John Kollár, who was a prominent figure in Slovak culture and literature. His work here was associated with the development of the Slovak national movement and his works are still considered to be one of the most important in the history of our literature.

Let's go focus on something that adds something mysterious and mysterious to this pastor. One interesting fact is that its exact chronology and origin have not been kept detailed records. This makes it something special and connects it with many other historical buildings that existed centuries ago. This vicaries became part of the history of Košice and its operation was associated with many important events that took place in our region.

Currently, the parish of St. Elizabeth is open to the public and can be visited. It is a place that brings you to the past and allows you to immerse yourself in the history of Košice and Slovakia. Go see her facade, see her atmosphere, and imagine how she looked inside in the past. St. Elisabeth's parish is not a monument, but also a place where past and present meet.

Before you leave, we would like to invite you to enjoy the other beauty of Košice-Old Town. There are other historical monuments, such as the dome buildings, which are part of the Košice Cathedral. Go and look at them and immerse yourself in the history hidden in every stone.

Have a good trip and look at this parish with a new look. This monument is not a part of our culture, but also a place that brings you to the past and allows you to immerse yourself in the history of our ancestors.
