Welcome to Fiľakovo. You have just stopped before one of the most important and peaceful points of this city - the Franciscan monastery. Before you begin to examine his form in detail, let's try to stand up for a while and see the environment in which you find yourself. Do you feel the change of pace? How does street noise and the daily movement of the city slowly turn into a quieter, more thoughtful atmosphere? You're standing in front of a building that's not just a set of walls and roofs, but a living witness to history that lasts here, even though the world is constantly changing around. See the power of presence that this object radiates. It is a place that requires attention, not by noise, but by its quiet, motionless stability.

The Franciscan monastery represents a deep spiritual message firmly embedded in the history of the region. Although accurate chronological data on its origin are not known to us and we do not know the names of architects who planned the construction, we can blame very much on its very existence. The monasteries of this counsel, based on ideals of humility, poverty, and service, brought to cities as Fiľak's specific way of life. The Franciscans were not just residents of the city, they were part of it, a spiritual heart that responded to the needs of the community. Although we have failed to keep the exact year when the first stone was laid here, we can try to understand its meaning through the tradition that this monastery bears. Every century that has survived this object has contributed to its character and how your view is perceived today.

Now that we have understood its spiritual and historical basis, look at the construction itself. Notice her facade and how her shapes are anchored in the surrounding space. When you move around, pay attention to the rhythm of the opening and walls. See how daylight changes the appearance of this building - from sharp shadows in the midday to soft, soft reflections at sunset. Although the building does not have specific artistic elements described in our records, its beauty lies in its overall harmony and how it can act monumentally and humbly. Watch how architecture connects with the environment and how its massiveness contrasts with the movement of people around you. Look at how the walls meet the pavement as the building appears to be a firm anchor in a constantly changing world. Feel the texture of surfaces that you may have seen many times in your life, but in this context, in this silence, they have a completely different dimension.

Although we do not have the names of the specific individuals who formed this monastery, we can imagine the thousands of anonymous lives that have passed here. Imagine monks who practiced everyday rituals in silence and people from Fiľak who sought comfort, counsel, or spiritual support. Every step along these corridors, every prayer in the convent, left an invisible mark in this place. We're just a short moment in the long tracks of time that this monastery doesn't stop writing. These unknown personalities, these thousands of anonymous lives, are what gives the place its real depth. They're not just names in the textbooks of history, but they're human destinies that have intertwined with the fates of the people of Filyak.

The greatest fascinating aspect of this place is the very uncertainty surrounding it. What if we knew the exact year that started building here? What would architects tell us about their dreams and what message they wanted to leave? This void in the records is not a deficiency, but rather an invitation to your own imagination and to your search. This uncertainty makes the monastery a place of real mysticism, where history doesn't only meet facts, but also what is unsaid. It is this unknownness that allows us to view the monastery as a place of timeless which does not belong to just one century or one person, but belongs to the time itself. It is a place where silence becomes a language and where unknown details allow our imagination to create its own picture of the past.

We invite you to continue your detour on Fiľakovo. Get carried away by the atmosphere of the city and look for other traces of history that are all around you. Every street, every old house and every corner of this city can hide a story waiting to be discovered. Thank you for spending time with us and for stopping by this monastery. We wish you a pleasant and inspiring journey in other places.

Tips for visitors

The best time to visit the Franciscan monastery is in autumn when the climate is warm and pleasant. In these months, golden lights can appear on the building blocks.

See what to take with you: sunglasses to protect your eyes from the sun, comfortable shoes and drinking water supplies. In a monastery, access to common equipment may be restricted.

Photography is recommended on the monastic terrace, where there is the best perspective for the overall view. The best time for photos is in the morning or in the late afternoon.

Near the monastery there is an interesting Fiľakovo castle, which can be visited in about 30 minutes. For families with children is a visit to the park or a mild walk along picturesque trails nearby.

Today we go to Fiľakovo, where the Franciscan monastery stands. It was established in 1694 and it will be interesting to see how the monks lived there.

The Franciscans chose Fiľakovo as their homeland. They lived peacefully, spending every day in prayer and working for the benefit of others. In the morning they are built with bells that led them to a spiritual day. The monks met in church for a common prayer and reading.
