Kysucká gallery is located in Oščadnica, Žilina region. It is a regional art gallery focused on modern and contemporary art. The gallery was founded in 1981 by the initiative of natives and friends of Kysuce, including JUDr. Anton Blah and twelve artists such as Stanislav Biroš, Miroslav Cipár, Anton Čutek, Milan Greguš, František Hübel, Vojtech Ihriský, Milan Mravec, Pavol Muška, František Ondro, Milan Paštéka, Jozef Susíenka and Ondrej Zimka. The Gallery was based on the exhibition "Saying to artists of the home region" from 1975.
The manor house and the park where the gallery is located have a rich history. Prussian Count Franz Ballestrem purchased land in 1908 from the great estateman Arnold Popper with the proposal to build the mansion as a representative seat and establish a forest park. The manor house was built in 1910-1913 under the leadership of architect Hans von Poellnitz, who also designed other projects for the Ballestrem family. The family came from northern Italy and achieved success in Prussia as officers and industrialists.
After World War II, the building was nationalized and adapted for housing needs. In 1973 the castle was declared the National Cultural Monument of the Slovak Republic within the Protected Landscape Area Kysuce. The gallery acquired the manor house in 1976 and after reconstruction the first exhibitions were made available in 1981.
In the collection gallery we will find works of several Slovak artists such as Karol Baron, Julius Bárta and Albin Brunovský. The gallery focuses on contemporary art with emphasis on creating representatives of the Kysuce region.
New permanent LUMEN NATURE exhibitions were opened in 2022, which contain works with impressionist and luministic tendencies. The manor house was modernised in the framework of a cross-border project funded from European financial resources.
Today, the manor house serves as a space for the Kysuce gallery and is open to the public.
