Abaffy mansion-second Manor house
Abaffy mansion in the village Horná Lehota in the Žilina region is a baroque building from the 18th century, which has undergone later classical adjustments. The monument has an architectural solution with a central tract and oval risk.
Municipality of Horná The deadline is first mentioned in writing in 1420 as an accessory to Orava Castle. At the place of today's mansion stood in the 16th century the curia of the first member of the family established in Orava, Ján Abaffy. He entered the services of František Thurza first at the Bytčianská estate and later at the estate of Orava. Abaffy settled permanently in the seat of Orava and received from Thurzo's son Juraj in 1587 for the faithful service of the village Horná Lehota, in which he built a Renaissance curio. After John died, his four sons took care of her together, trying to build on his father's career achievements. In the second half of the 18th century probably Orava podžupan František Abaffy had the heat rebuilt into a baroque manor house and settled in it. Later he moved to the mansion in Mokradi and reserved the seat in Upper Lehota for his second-born son Vendelín. Vendelín had the object modified in a classicistic style. The manor house remained uninhabited until about the middle of the 19th century and after 1945 it was converted into flats. The area records the Monument Office of the Slovak Republic under the number of ÚZPF 220 and consists of one object marked 220/1, while architectural-historic research took place in 2015.
Podpivničený mansion covered with hipped roofs has a central tract with oval risk, which follows two diagonally designed wings. The main entrance facade and a pair of fanically opening diagonal wings form an honorable courtyard. In its central entrance section, highlighted by a slightly protruding polygon in front of the older Renaissance building, focuses the artistic decoration of the whole object. The eastern part of the manor house comes from the end of the 16th century. In the 18th century, the object was adjusted in Baroque style and the side wings are the result of a classicistic adjustment from the first half of the 19th century. They are designed simply and cut their window openings on both floors with indicated color shambles in plasters. The area of the manor house formed in 1873 majer, mill and several other brick and wooden objects. There is also a classicistic economic building from the beginning of the 19th century, under socialism also converted into flats.
The first owners were John Abaffy, after whom his four sons took care of the estate. Juraj Abaffy became the castelan of the Orava Castle with Juraj Thurza and during the uprising Štefan Bocskaya the noble residence defended against the rebels. Later, the manor house belonged to the Orava podžupan František Abaffy and his son Vendelien, who was in 1822 under thežupan Orava seat, the adjacent table court and imperial-royal court counselor. Vendelín Abaffy died after a short illness in the mansion.
According to the description from 1707 the curio consisted of brick and wooden structures and was surrounded by garden and orchard. After his death, the body remains of Vendelin Abaffy were stored in the family crypt of the Church of the Holy Trinity in Upper Lehota.
The status of the historical residence is not good and the manor house still serves as an apartment building, while during the 20th century only a series of repairs and maintenance took place. The manor house is located on the upper end of the village Horná Lehota south of the main road and is freely accessible from the exterior.

Welcome to the picturesque Upper LeHot. Right now, you're standing in front of Abaffy's mansion, and you're in a place that hides deep traces of the past. Stop for a moment, listen to the surrounding silence and let yourself be transferred to the time when this place was writing its strongest stories. You have a historical structure in front of you whose walls remember centuries of development and change. Look in front of you and see the atmosphere that is radiating from this place while I bring you closer to its fascinating history. Let's go back in time to when the history of this site began to be written. In the place of today's manor house was not always this form, but in the 16th century there was the original Renaissance curio. Who built it, and why? John Abaffy will be prosecuted for this construction. He received the village of Upper Lehota from Juraj Thurza as a reward for his faithful service. Imagine the time when it was decided on the form of manor and when the foundations laid became the home of the noble family. Later, in the second half of the eighteenth century, this curio went through a marked transformation. The then Orava podžupan František Abaffy didn't just let her lose her, but he took care of her conversion to a baroque mansion. These historical layers create a complex and interesting picture of the development of architecture in this place. Now pay attention to the very form of the building. As you stand right in front of her, make visual contact with her exterior and go through her eyes after her facade. Be aware of the proportions and the overall expression that speaks to you without the need for complex descriptions. This building carries traces of rebuilding from Renaissance to Baroque, creating an interesting historical legacy in architectural form. Every view of these walls reminds you that architecture is not just about stones and mortar, but especially about the human destinies that have taken place here. The Abaffy family has been linked to this region for generations. When you stand here, realize that the same places once walked people who decided what happened in the region. František Abaffy, as an important figure and the Orava podžupan, pushed his seal into this manor house and turned the old mansion into a representative seat of his time. The stories of this family are intertwined with the whole history of Upper Time. These are stories of power, of duty, but also of trying to leave a permanent mark on buildings that have survived centuries. Stop by to think of what all these walls have experienced. The place where you are now standing has undergone a transformation from a simple gift for faithful service to a more lavish baroque residence. It is fascinating to imagine what life in Upper LeHot looked like at a time when construction styles were changing and new generations of the Abaffy family were coming. This continuity is something that gives the place a special spell. Thank you for spending your time getting to know this interesting monument.
